Focus On… War (March 16-22)

First, let me say that this is kj’s brainchild.  She has been talking about doing week-long collaborative projects on our blog – to focus on key issues and actions we can all take part in.

Buhdy, what about an action a week?  simple stuff… NENA, Iraq Moratorium, we’ll need two more…. a big pot with a big label on it for anyone to toss something in on their way through, or for others to stop and and form a circle around, or for others to create art or essays or, you know, just walk by and say, “Yeah, gotta do that!” and then promptly forget because their life sucks that very moment, but maybe they’ll remember next week or next month. ~ kj

I enthusiastically support the idea/experiment and have been thinking about ways to implement it within the framework of Soapblox … at least to start with.  Tonight I’m just here to throw out some ideas to start the organization efforts and facilitate whatever needs to happen behind the scenes on the blog.

Happy Birthday Peace

The Peace sign is 50 years old today!

This icon was designed by Gerald Holtom, a professional designer and artist in Britain.  It was originally an anti-nuclear emblem for the Direct Action Committee Against Nuclear War. The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament adopted it as their logo and thereafter it became an international icon for the 1960s anti-war movement.  More about the history…

Happy Birthday Peace.com has a peace sign gallery to celebrate the occasion.  Anyone can upload their own art.

Tag Project I: Cleanup & Rules

When I began this project we had 3,622 tags, of which more than two-thirds are singletons (2,666).  In sorting through our existing list to see what’s what, I have already pared it down to about 3,560.

I make a living working with databases and am somewhat fanatic about having a clean dataset.  The banes of my existence are duplicates and ambiguous or incomplete information. Keeping database size down is also a concern. Size can affect speed and performance.     The first phase of the Tag project will be to clean up duplicates and ambiguous info.  The second phase we’ll look at the singletons and see where we can consolidate tags to keep the numbers and size down.

Before we go any further, meet our Official Tag Team mascots:

SOTB: State of the Blog

My fellow Dharmericans….

I am here tonight to report on the state of the blog.

The state of the blog is strong!

Under the leadership of Zen Dictator buhdydharma, and with the hard werk of the Administration (ek hornbeck, Turkana, OPOL, Nightprowlkitty, Armando [in name only], kestrel9000, On The Bus), Guest Bloggers (clammyc, hekebolos, Jerome a Paris, News Corpse, Rusty1776, stormchaser, takebackthehouse, thereisnospoon, TocqueDeville) and Editors (73rd virgin, breathingstill, Cronesense, exmearden, GreyHawk, ksh01, LithiumCola, LoE, Magnifico, mishima, NLinStPaul, notlightnessofbeing, noweasels, occams hatchet, pfiore8, pico, plf515, pyrrho, Robyn, srkp23, theevolutionarysieve, TiaRachel, undercovercalico, Unitary Moonbat, winter rabbit, Zwoof) (whew!) we have made good progress and are empowered to change the future.

In our short time in the blogosphere we have achieved some significant milestones (see below).  We continue to stand against the forces of darkness and Repuglicans.    We fight for the principles of the common good and speak for the pompetous of love.

As candidate war refugees continue to stream in from Daily Kos, we welcome them and continue to provide substantive food for thought with a healthy snark at least once a day.   Give us your pooties, your mojo, and your pie!

This blog of The People, by The People, for The People, shall not perish from the internets.

Blogging is the future and Docudharma will be there with peace, love, and ponies for all!

Kucinich Bows Out

I just saw the news – Kucinich is dropping out of the presidential race to focus on saving his seat in Congress.     He will make a formal announcement tomorrow.   (In the video he says it will be a lengthy speech – so stay tuned for that.  I hope he kicks butt on the war and Impeachment.)  He doesn’t plan to endorse any of the other candidates in the primary.
