So folks in Las Vegas for the 2010 Netroots Nation conference got a surprise when they showed up for the session on Civil Rights in the Modern Era to find a checkpoint of “ICE agents” looking for illegal European immigrants:

OH, WELL THAT EXPLAINS IT
A 29-year-old Osaka man has admitted to damaging Christian churches 72 times over the years by throwing fire extinguishers and rocks at them, all part of a desperately misguided plan to get “the priests to listen to his prayers.”A 71-year-old Tokyo man strangled his handicapped 69-year-old wife to death, later telling authorities he was “exhausted from caring for her.”
A 72-year-old Kyoto child safety volunteer admitted to molesting an elementary schoolgirl on his patrol, later telling the court, “I did it because the girl was adorable.”
It was reported that Jiro Saito, a former vice finance minister now president of Japan Post, will get a ¥90 million retirement bonus from his previous employer, Tokyo Financial Exchange. Saito was originally in line to receive ¥10 million more than that, but the board reduced the amount for fear that it “could incite a backlash.”
As the G8 and G20 summits wrapped up in Canada, Japan PM Naoto Kan promised US prez Barack Obama that he would have plenty of matcha ice cream on hand when Obama visits Japan in November. While the US leader is a big fan of matcha ice cream, the official White House log recorded the comment as “much ice cream.” Musta’ thought Clinton was still in office.

Popular Culture (Music) 20100723. Atomic Rooster
Atomic Rooster was in interesting band. They were certainly British, and very eclectic. There are also connexions with other bands (some of which I have covered here) and with other, less well known ones.
This band came to be in much part between the collaboration betwixt the folks producing The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and several other bands, including The Who. Their connexions include King Crimson, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, and a couple of other bands that I would rather folks mention in the comments. Shall we see more about them?

Rachael Gieschen’s family founded Hanover Seaside Club in Wrightsville Beach, NC, in 1898. When she lived as a man, she took her children there during those hot summer days. But the 69-year-old Air Force veteran transitioned a few years ago and that made other club members uncomfortable, so the board of directors decided to cancel her membership.
Essentially, the club decided she was disposable. One shouldn’t expect the club members, some of whom are her children, to be forced to consort with a tranny, after all, no matter how long they have known her.

California Budget Woes
The current mantra in the conservative circles of California government is those darn employees with their “cadillac pensions and benefits”. When painted with a broad brush, as the story goes, its these same government employees that are bankrupting the state and local municipalities.
In order to combat a crushing budget deficit of $450,000 the City of Maywood last month planned to layoff all of its employees and outsource its operations to a neighboring community.
Maywood, a small working-class community south of downtown Los Angeles, plans to lay off all its employees, disband its Police Department and turn over its entire municipal operations to a neighbor – an action that appears to be without precedent among California cities.
Maywood a largely hispanic community has a population of 28,991 people. Maywood’s cost of living is 13.60% Higher than the U.S. average. The unemployment rate in Maywood is 18.20 percent.
So who was handling city services for Maywood?

DREAM Now Letters Recap: Tell Harry Reid You Want The DREAM Act Now
The “DREAM Now Series: Letters to Barack Obama” is a social media campaign that launched Monday, July 19, to underscore the urgent need to pass the DREAM Act. The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, S. 729, would help tens of thousands of young people, American in all but paperwork, to earn legal status, provided they graduate from U.S. high schools, have good moral character, and complete either two years of college or military service. With broader comprehensive immigration reform stuck in partisan gridlock, the time is now for the White House and Congress to step up and pass the DREAM Act!
This post will mark the completion of the first week of the DREAM Now Letters. This social media campaign has been an immediate success, which is in large part due to the historic actions of DREAMers this week.
Major bloggers from across the net, which I will link to below, have already cross-posted both Mohammad Abdollahi’s and Yahaira Carrillo’s stories. The letters even made a brief appearance on memeorandum, a news aggregator that I’m addicted to.
If you haven’t read about it, yet, on Tuesday, 21 DREAM Act youth were arrested on Capitol Hill. Nativists’ heads are already exploding at the notion that undocumented youth could openly declare their immigration status, get arrested, and not get deported. David Bennion, my co-blogger at Citizen Orange, has the best write up of the action, by far. It’s new media at it’s best. He was actually there while it was happening.

The WMD’s of War and Occupations
“Weapons of Mass Destruction {WMD}” has become the new mainstream term of this new century in condemning others, as well as and connected to criminal terrorist acts, to give reason for invasions and occupations, not to mention to make sure it scares the bejeebish out of the masses {same as the Cold War Nuclear threat}. As those using the term to justify an invasion, reigning terror on mostly innocent people, War of Choice, while using the many different WMD’s of War that have always existed and been perfected as well as adding new developed WMD’s to the stockpiles of destructive weapons and trauma’s of War. At the same time worrying about criminal terror element, foreign or domestic, stealing the makings of the same WMDs the advanced nations are developing.
