Oh, those charming folks at Aetna.
http://www.legitgov.org/price_…
Wednesday, the same day as the National Association of Free Clinics held their latest clinic at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, which took care of a thousand uninsured people who needed a doctor but couldn’t afford it, the same city in which Aetna is based, Aetna Insurance announced they were laying off 100 more employees. The company previously laid off 160 in November 2009, and is planning to cut at least 625 nationwide.
Catch the excuse given below:
Part of the reason, company officials said, are declining membership and the state of the economy.
Declining membership? And why, pray tell, is membership declining ?

(AP/Huffington Post) — SHAHI KOTO, Pakistan – A roadside bomb killed three U.S. soldiers and partly destroyed a girls’ school in northwest Pakistan on Wednesday in an attack that drew attention to a little-publicized American military training mission in the al-Qaida and Taliban heartland.
They were the first known U.S. military fatalities in Pakistan’s lawless tribal regions near the Afghan border and a major victory for militants who have been hit hard by a surge of U.S. missile strikes and a major Pakistani army offensive.
The blast also killed three schoolgirls and a Pakistani soldier who was traveling with the Americans. Two more U.S. soldiers were wounded, along with more than 100 other people, mostly students at the school, officials said.

We see images of Darfur on our computer screens, with people like Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, and Don Cheadle raising awareness about the mounting humanitarian crisis in that region of the Sudan and Chad. But to make the story clear, they tend to speak of Darfur as an isolated conflict inside Sudan; the greater context of the crisis does not change the dire need for aid and intervention.
But the reasons behind the conflict in Darfur are complicated, and they cannot be separated from Sudanese civil war history. The conflict in Darfur started as an uprising against the Sudanese government by the Fur and other farmers in the region because they were marginalized and excluded from the peace negotiations toward ending the Second Sudanese Civil War…

She is an eloquent speaker, an expressive author. Elizabeth Edwards is effervescent, effusive, and has an excellent mind. She understands profound policy issues as easily as she prepares a sandwich. Her memoir appeared on The New York Times bestseller list. Few think of Elizabeth Edwards as every woman. Other daughters of Eve might say Edwards is exceptional; surely, she is not as I am. Yet, life experiences might have taught Elizabeth Edwards otherwise. Just as other ladies, she is brilliant, beautiful, and not nearly equal to a man.

Hello, all. I’m at work tonight & will check in as soon as I get home.
What is your favorite comfort food?
I like (s)mashed potatoes & gravy.
Ham steak & hominy (one ham steak, two cans of whole hominy, drained. Sear the steak on both sides, remove from pan. Add the hominy to the skillet & stir to scrape up the ham bits, then put the steak on top of the hominy & put the whole skillet into the oven [350] for about half an hour until the ham steak is cooked through and the hominy has browned a bit & absorbed the ham flavor. Serve with your favorite green veggie: I like spinach).

First, my apologies to all I’ve offended. All I can say is, it was whiskey and a new medicine speaing.
So, what about the Citizens United case?
In a nutshell, it practically changes federal law very little but overturns a lot of state law.
In terms of federal elections, Citizens United changes the law little and doesn’t mean much.
As for state elections, fasten your seatbelt.
Advocacy organizations will now be able to go into states, such as Michigan, and pound the voters. Fasten your seat belt.
The real question is, will you give to these advocacy organizations?
That’s what they hope.

1 Haiti polls delayed amid post-quake chaos
by David Dieudonne, AFP
Tue Feb 2, 9:46 pm ET
PORT-AU-PRINCE (AFP) – Three weeks after a massive earthquake crippled Haiti, authorities indefinitely postponed upcoming legislative elections amid lingering chaos and rising security concerns.
The move underlined the impotence of the Haitian government in the wake of the 7.0-magnitude January 12 quake that killed an estimated 170,000 people and left many official buildings, including the presidential palace, in ruins. “The electoral council has decided to postpone the legislative elections of February 28 and March 3, 2010, to a later unspecified date,” the authorities announced on Tuesday, giving no further details. |
