The Stepford Candidate

If you’ve never seen The Stepford Wives you’ll have to head for wiki and/or YouTube to get a basic rundown. If the 2004 Nicole Kidman version is what you recall then find and watch the original 1975 copy. That movie had a tremendous cultural impact at the time. If you’re a boomer, you remember seeing it that first time.

In a Wiki nutshell:

The premise involves the married men of the fictional town of Stepford, Connecticut, and their fawning, submissive, impossibly beautiful wives. The protagonist is Joanna Eberhart, a talented photographer newly arrived from New York City with her husband and children, eager to start a new life. As time goes on, she becomes increasingly disturbed by the zombie-like, submissive Stepford wives, especially when she sees her once independent-minded friends – fellow new arrivals to Stepford – turn into mindless, docile housewives overnight. Her husband, who seems to be spending more and more time at meetings of the local men’s association, mocks her fears.

As the story progresses, Joanna becomes convinced that the wives of Stepford are being poisoned or brainwashed into submission by the men’s club. She visits the library and reads up on the pasts of Stepford’s wives, finding out that some of the women were once feminist activists and very successful professionals, while the leader of the men’s club is a former Disney engineer and others are artists and scientists, capable of creating life-like robots. Her friend Bobbie helps her investigate, going so far as to write to the EPA to inquire about possible environmental toxins in Stepford. However, eventually, Bobbie is also transformed into a docile housewife and has no interest in her previous activities.

At the end of the novel, Joanna decides to flee Stepford, but when she gets home she finds that her children have been taken. She asks her husband to let her leave, but he takes her car keys. She manages to escape from the house on foot, and several of the men’s club members track her down. They corner her in the woods and she accuses them of creating robots out of the town’s women. The men deny the accusation, and ask Joanna if she would believe them if she saw one of the other women bleed. Joanna agrees to this, and they take her to Bobbie’s house. Bobbie’s husband and son are upstairs, with loud rock music playing – as if to cover screams. The scene ends as Bobbie brandishes a knife at her former friend. In the story’s epilogue, Joanna has become another Stepford wife gliding through the local supermarket, and has given up her career as a photographer, while Ruthanne (a new resident in Stepford) appears poised to become the conspiracy’s next victim.

The clue that gave Bobbie away was she couldn’t remember a word she’d used in conversation the day before – something like “donut”. Software problem. It’s always the software.

(I can’t get the iframe embed to work so head to youtube for the shopping market final scene. It gives a good sense of the bot-like life style.)

End Game

This is a piece by Chris Hedges. I’d consider it a must-read. The last paragraph is split in two pieces by me for points of emphasis.

Revolution in America

The game is over. We lost. The corporate state will continue its inexorable advance until two-thirds of the nation and the planet is locked into a desperate, permanent underclass. Most of us will struggle to make a living while the Blankfeins and our political elites wallow in the decadence and greed of the Forbidden City and Versailles. These elites do not have a vision. They know only one word: more.  They will continue to exploit the nation, the global economy and the ecosystem. And they will use their money to hide in gated compounds when it all implodes. Do not expect them to take care of us when it starts to unravel.

And here’s the conclusion:

We will have to take care of ourselves. We will have to rapidly create small, monastic communities where we can sustain and feed ourselves. It will be up to us to keep alive the intellectual, moral and cultural values the corporate state has attempted to snuff out. It is either that or become drones and serfs in a global corporate dystopia. It is not much of a choice. But at least we still have one.

Imbolc – the Spiritual Garden Cycle Begins

Punxatawney Phil of Ground Hog Day fame showed his furry face this morning. Woodchucks, aka groundhogs [LATIN], tend to be ornery critters so you’ll have noticed that he was handled with gloves. Legend had is that if Phil sees his shadow the morning of 02 Feb then there will be six more weeks of winter, else winter weather will soon end. I have two takes on this (in gardener-geek speak): {if (TRUE==shadow) then remaining_winter = six_more_weeks else remaining_winter = 1.5 months};. The second take is that Phil’s ritualistic hauling out of his well fed cage represents a last hanging thread of our human heritage on this planet; that we unconsciously and subconsciously had this day chosen for us by the rotation of the Earth around the Sun.

Phil’s looking prosperous state is well matched by his burgher handlers. None of them really know what’s going on. In Nature’s course they would be thinned considerably now having burned off their body fat in surviving the winter. They are acting out a ritual ingrained in our collective sub-conscious from the time before written words. from the time of giant stone celestial calendars and rocks that mark each hill top of Ireland at a tilt of [NEEDSDATA] towards the sun – the exact tilt of the Earth’s axis which brings us our seasons.

The Great Celtic Wheel of the Year is marked with eight spokes and all are determined by the position of the Sun and the Four Seasons. The Wheel breaks these four seasons into eight smaller seasons call cross-quarter [NEEDSLINK] days. This further division of the sun’s relative latitudinal position marks important times in the agrarian life cycle. [NEEDS LINK?]. These days are marked in our DNA since we began to settle down, plant seeds and form communities.

In the age of Michael Pollans’ Omnivore’s Dilemma we unknowingly continue to celebrate these pre-BCE days with a little time out from the diurian dreariness of mid-winter to acknowledge that the spring is coming and it’s time to shift gears in the garden activities. The time has come to plan the crop rotation, choose the seeds, begin the indoor seedling starts and in this strangest of years here on the coastal plain of SE Mass, wait for the two plus feet of seven weeks continuous snow cover to melt into the ground and make it workable for the direct seeding and early transplants. Air Force Academy Controlled by Radical Muslim Jihadists

This essay is a companion piece to the “Atheists and Agnostics Need Not Apply” essay by The MomCat yesterday. It’s also a followup to a comment I made near the bottom of the threads.

It’s actually fairly common knowledge that Muslim fundamentalists have been turning the USAF academy into a hell hole for non-believers. Cadets are forced to pretend they are Muslim or face harassment and /or expulsion. Additionally, the mostly Sunni staff lies uneasily in bed with the radical Shiite clerics who enforce an early test form of Sharia Law that may wrk in Uhmerica.

A lot of what I’ll be quoting here goes to Thruthdoubt. Here is their link. This essay was published 30 Sep 2010. It’s recent. Don’t let the code phrases for evangelicals confuse you with the Islamists. It’s part of the plot to slip this into the Uhmerican mainstream under the radar.

Like I said, the news is old. Here’s an article Air Force Removes Chaplain From Post

Officer Decried Evangelicals’ (read Imama’s) Influence
from WakPo dated 13 May 2005. That’s a five year time span. that’s a long term plan and a concerted effort to hijack the USAF, the Strategic Air Command and the Missile Command. This includes “Looking Glass” the nuclear super hardened command center deep in the bowels of Cheyenne Mountain.

I’m going to toss out some blockquotes so you can get a sense of what’s going on. Truthdoubt and WakPo will be the origins. I don’t need to go any further than two articles five years apart. For now. Note the one cadet quote going back to 1977.

There’s a veteran’s group, the MRFF, that follows this closely. Here’s their cred: MRFF Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

October 27, 2009
Can you imagine that? Nobel Peace Prizes for Al Gore, Barack Hussein Obama and a bunch of supposed veterans trying to throw out the true evangelicals left standing at the USAFA. And they’ll probably win it!!! Where’s the Nobel for George W (Texas Ranger) Bush for creating the  concept of pre-emptive war in order to save lives? What is wrong with this world?

The USAF Academy is located in Colorado Springs. It’s nick name is “the Evangelical Vatican”. It’s also known as the “The Christian Mecca” as a way of throwing people off the scent. It’s part of the inside joke of what the terrorists are doing to take over our nuclear capability. Some small background via Wiki:

The military boom continued and in 1963, NORAD’s main facility was built in Cheyenne Mountain. This placed NORAD directly next to Colorado Springs and permanently secured the city’s military presence. During the Cold War the city greatly expanded due to increased revenue from various industries and the prevailing military presence in the city. In the mid 1970s, Ent Air Force Base was shut down and later converted into the United States Olympic Training Center. Military presence was further increased in 1983 with the founding of Falcon Air Force Base (later changed to Schriever Air Force Base), a base primarily tasked with missile defense and satellite control. Fort Carson and Peterson are still growing and continue to contribute to the city’s growth. Air Force Space Command is located on Peterson AFB.

Not well known, but jihadist training camps are exact copies of the US Olympic Training Center complete with demolition training and live fire exercises.

Religious institutions

Focus on the Family Visitors Center

Although houses of worship of almost every major religion can be found in the city, Colorado Springs has attracted a large influx of Evangelical Christians and Christian organizations in recent years. At one time Colorado Springs was counted to be the national headquarters for 81 different religious organizations, earning the city the tongue-in-cheek nickname “the Evangelical Vatican”[48] and “The Christian Mecca”[citation needed]. Religious groups with regional or international headquarters in Colorado Springs include: the Association of Christian Schools International, the Christian and Missionary Alliance, Compassion International, Every Home for Christ, Focus on the Family, HCJB, the International Bible Society, The Navigators, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Colorado Springs, WAY-FM Media Group, Andrew Wommack Ministries, and Young Life.

Italics mine.

Many of these organizations have about five percent of their worth skimmed into the informal Islamic banking system. They’ll deny it vehemently. The more vehemently they deny it, the more truth may be behind the rumor. Think about that for a minute.

Obama to give America back to the Native Americans

Here’s the next month’s news today. The fastest rising meme on the right is now that Obama is an honorary Crow Indian he intends to give America back to the Native Americans. It’s all part of his left wing plot to destroy us. Fortunately, I am an anchor baby. So were my parents and three of my four grandparents.

I have no idea how they keep coming up with this shit but they do. And it never ends and they always top themselves! American Reality is a cosmic tragicomic absurdity written by morons for idiots with weekly Sunday morning critiques by flatulent gasbags who have learned to speak with their anal sphincters.

There’s a supposedly terrible movie made in 1978 called Americathon that is in danger of becoming reality. Actually, huge chunks of it have come to pass already. Here’s the Wiki on the people behind this and the premise:

Americathon (also known as Americathon 1998) is a 1979 American comedy film starring John Ritter, Fred Willard, Peter Riegert, Harvey Korman, and Nancy Morgan, with narration by George Carlin, based on a play by Firesign Theatre alumni Phil Proctor and Peter Bergman. Others credited in the film include Jay Leno, Meat Loaf, Tommy Lasorda, and Chief Dan George, with a musical performance by Elvis Costello.

The premise of the film is that, sometime in the then-near future (1998), the USA has run out of oil, and many Americans are literally living in their (now stationary) cars and either jog or ride bicycles to travel. The federal government, housed in “The Western White House” (a sub-leased condominium in Marina del Rey, California), is near national bankruptcy and in danger of being foreclosed by a cartel of Native Americans in control of Nike (which has been renamed “National Indian Knitting Enterprise”). President Chet Roosevelt (Ritter) hires television consultant Eric McMerkin (Riegert) to help produce a national raffle. Instead, they decide that the only way enough money can be raised to save America is to run a telethon, and hire TV celebrity Monty Rushmore (Korman) to host it.

The soundtrack features “It’s A Beautiful Day” by The Beach Boys, “Get A Move On” by Eddie Money and “(I Don’t Want To Go To) Chelsea” by Elvis Costello. Dorothy Stratten appears, uncredited, as one of the stage dancers. John Carradine was to have played “Uncle Sam” in this film, but his scenes were edited.

There is so much more:

Assange is a High-Level AQ Operator

So I made the mistake of going into a Walmart today. First off, I ask God for special dispensation when I go through the doors. Let’s face it, the company is built on slave labor. Shopping there is morally abhorrent. The conditions of its Chinese laborers alone is a sufficient abuse of human rights to have the whole fucking Walton family and their heirs imprisoned for life. Then there’s the abuse of American Walmart employees who are paid so little that they can’t afford the cheap crap they sell. They don’t get health care. They’re taught how to sign up for Medicare. Food stamps. Fuel assistance.

Anyway, it was on the way home, it was late and the only food store open. As I’m parking my car I’m noticing all the security cameras – light poles, on the building, going through the door, in the store in each aisle. I had enough cameras on me to produce a 3D documentary of one man’s quick stop to get some late dinner fixings.

Being the techie I am I wander to the back of the store to check geek and LCD prices. There at the back of the store is a wall of screens with the same loop running over and over…

The Department of Homeland Security this week stepped up its “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign, but you won’t be seeing more ads in New York City subway cars. No, the public service announcements will be featured in a far different location: Walmart.

DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano recorded a video clip that will be looped over and over again at a total of 588 Wal-Mart stores nationwide.

“Homeland security begins with hometown security,” Napolitano says in the clip. “That’s why I’m pleased Walmart is helping to make our communities more safe and secure. If you see something suspicious in the parking lot or in the store, say something immediately.”

I stood there in shock and awe. As in “Awe, fuck!”

Is this the end?

Or just a very quiet Saturday? Where have all the ponies gone?
