Breaking: BP Claims Well Shut Off During Test

BP is claiming the oil well has been successfully shut off for now during this pressure test.

If you pray, pray.

I’ll add more in a minute.  Staring at webcams.

Pressure will build up quickly, so they may turn it back on to release pressure so things don’t go to hell suddenly.

This is unlikely to stay the same status for much over an hour, at the most.

update 1.  Well monitoring is taking place. So far, pressure steady.  A sudden drop indicates a breach somewhere and they would re open valves to let oil flow out rather than blow a hole somewhere else in the well, equipment, or well bore.

apparently the last thing they shut off was blowing quite a bit of plume out nearer the bottom and that was pretty spectacular in appearance, I had thought something popped off somewhere as I had watched.

BP faces more delays in bid to staunch oil flow

By Matt Scuffham and Kristen Hays

A leak in a line connected to one of the valves in a capping device is the latest setback for the British company, which could face being barred from getting new U.S. offshore oil and gas exploration leases for up to seven years.

The group, which is in lawmakers’ crosshairs over the largest offshore oil spill in U.S. history, also confirmed on Thursday that it had lobbied the UK government over a prisoner transfer agreement with Libya in late 2007. In August 2009, the UK released a Libyan convicted of blowing up a U.S. jet, provoking an angry American reaction.

The spill started after an explosion at a rig on April 20 ruptured an undersea well and killed 11 workers, and has soiled hundreds of miles of shoreline and shut down about a third of Gulf fisheries.

Addressing the Poisonous Root of Bitterness

I have written openly about my Christ-centered faith on numerous occasions.  I rediscovered it relatively recently after rejecting it out of hand earlier in life.  The best way to describe the experience is that, for whatever reason or another, it found me, rather than the other way around.  A belief in a higher power keeps me mentally supple and not fixated on the superficial.  My faith points me to the way to live in peace among other people, and also within myself.  So, when I observe yet again how easy it is for the mere mention of Jesus or God to provoke a nasty, negative response in many, I feel tremendously sad.

An allegory betwixt the Fox “News” Channel and MSNBC can be seen by examining the tactics and the demeanor of each of their two flagship women.  I must first say that I like women a lot, and find both of them physically attractive, but that is not germane to the discussion.  However, it is important.

Studies show that attractive news readers get better ratings than unattractive ones, regardless of gender.  Whilst I yield that everyone has her or his own picture of perfection, I hope that everyone will postulate that both of them are very attractive women, to level the field.  This post has nothing to do with sexual attraction, but rather intellectual ability and interviewing skills.  I just happen to think that they both are on about equal levels as far as being attractive goes.  At the risk of being called sexist, here we go.

You can tell it’s an election year by the amount of wild horses that suddenly have to be removed off Federal range to “preserve habitat” for mule deer hunters and cattle ranchers who also lease it.   This year, 1200 in our sister state, home to the Senate Majority Leader.

The Obama administration touted that it would use so called “science based” decision making.  After watching the Bush administration decide to humor the National Park’s decision to murder a bunch of introduced, very cute, but non trophy type smaller deer at Pt Reyes National Seashore with helicopter hunting, (think more canned Tule Elk Special Hunts as a result ) under the guise of they weren’t “native,” and the helicopter contract went to a big Republican donor, while the Dems made stupid excuses for this, I was sort of cynical that this was going to happen.

Science does not = rotor cowboys.

Science does not = Cattoor Livestock.

http://rtfitch.wordpress.com  7/12/2010 BLM – Infamous helicopter contractor returns for illegal tuscarora wild horse roundup.  “It was Cattoor Livestock that stampeded the horses of Pryor Mountain in 95ยบ+ degree heat for miles, and again the Cattoors who were actually credited with running the hooves right off from several foals during the bloodiest of all roundups on record, the Calico Complex debacle.  Due to the deaths in the field, …. documented on video, the Cattoors launched an attack on the First Amendment and instructed their attorneys to issue threat/demand letters to news agencies, major non profits, magazines and blogs that were reporting the news to the public on the deadly Calico roundup.  The letters wanted to “fix” the news…. and insist on public apologies for reporting the facts as witnessed. The mention of company owner David Cattoor’s past indictment for capturing and selling wild horses to slaughter was likewise considered taboo. ”

“In their care, 86 horses have died and 40 mares have aborted their late term foals….”

http://tuesdayshorse.wordpress…

“In late December, government contracted helicopters took to the air, rounding up every horse they could find on the vast 500,000 acre Calico range, an area designated principally for wild horse use since 1971, but grazed by thousands of privately owned, government subsidized cattle. The roundup….. has cost at least $1.3 million…. while causing injury and death to hundreds of wild horses.  ….. over 24 million acres have been withdrawn from wild horse and burro use.  The BLM “welfare ranching” practices continue allowing the land to be leased primarily to corporations at minimum fees of $1.35 per cow/calf pair or per 5 head of sheep per month, along with land leases to extractive and energy industries on Western public lands.

The Great Correction :

Down on  the corner of ruin and grace

I’m growin weary of the human race

hold  my lamp up in everyone’s face

lookin for an honest man

everyone tied to the turnin wheel

everyone hidin from the things they feel

well  the truth’s so hard it just don’t seem real

the shadow across this  land

people round here don’t  know what it means

to suffer at the hands of our american dreams

they  turn their backs on the grisly scenes

traced to the privileged sons

they got their god they got their  guns

got their armies and the chosen ones

but we’ll all be burnin  in the same big sun

when the great correction comes

down through the ages lovers of the  mystery

been sayin people let your love light shine

poets and  sages all throughout history

say the light burns brightest in the  darkest times

it’s the bitter end we’ve come down to

the eye of  the needle that we gotta get through

but the end could be the start  of something new

when the great correction comes

down through the ages….

down to the wire runnin  out of time

still got hope in this heart of mine

but the future  waits on the horizon line

for our daughters and our sons

I don’t know where this train’s bound

whole  lotta people tryin to turn it around

gonna shout til the walls come  tumblin down

and the great correction comes

don’t let me down

when  the great correction comes

Anticapitalist meetup, 7/18, noon PT, 3pm ET: suggestions, ideas, thoughts?

Folks, on Sunday I will post an “Anticapitalist meetup” diary over at Orange, noon PT, 3pm ET.

Here I’d just like to ask your opinion on how I can best promote this and what I can do to make this a good event.  Should I post a bibliography, a call to action, or one of my typical diaries?  What would you like to see from me?
