Arrows of Love or Hate?

Clapboard Segregation

Walls erected

to keep us apart

to give you

the illusion

that we are

undeserving

of equality

must one day

crumble

rotting on the inside

from the substandard

materials used

to erect them

the unholy thoughts

you believe

your morality

suggests

which anyone

sane

should be able

to see

only to reinforce

your supposed

superiority

Something there is

that does not

love a wall

Fleur: Twelve Graphics

A week ago, I started a graphic series.  As much as there ever is an inspiration to any of my graphics, there was the awareness that it was Bastille Day in France.  So I sat down at my program and created a series of unfinished (in my opinion) graphics, with the plan that I would come back later and finish each of them.

For some unknown reason, I decided to finish each one in two different ways, sometimes with something as simple as altering the hue.  Other times I made major alterations.

I don’t promise that they get better as they go along…but only that they got different.  It’s not a bad thing to surrender linear thinking sometimes, to explore what might have been if we had only done something different.

Rainbow Colors

Attrition Blues

I watch you

as you grow

learn some things

take baby steps

forward

hoping for more

ever willing

to teach you

how to make it so

Meanwhile

waiting for victory

through attrition

has a sour taste

Twisting Pathways

The Long Road

‘Tis a long road

from there to here

from despair to hope

from despondency

to expectation

‘Tis much longer

an endless

journey

if we never

take the first step

Trapped

Chains

We can only

truly know freedom

if we are aware

of the ways

we are in bondage

bound by a culture

which rigidly demands

our strict adherence

to fixed states

unchangeable

unchallengeable

under penalty

of expulsion

or worse

and still manage

to reject

those chains

Are you free?

Coloration

Walled In

men

women

maybe both

sometimes neither

our choice

or at least

it should be

Liberty

for our souls

and yours

if you want it

for you

and your children

your grandchildren

generations to come

the future

Freedom

to live

all the colors

of the rainbow

of gender

as well as skin

The walls

around you

between us

will fall

if you stop

believing in them

For Buhdy, Monday

As per Diane W’s great suggestion yesterday …

Monday.  Moonday. Luneday.

The Moon’s own day is appropriate to any work involving imagination, dreams, or psychic knowledge.

It’s also well attuned to issues of emotional health and healing.

Take a load off, Buhdy.

Wings of Truth

A Modern Cave

Spreading truth

in the face

of ignorance

we return to the cave

after experiencing

the beauty and wonder

of a better place

a more just world

a brighter future

We understand

the difficulty

you face

having lived in the

in the mostly dark

having only experienced

the shadows

that passed as reality

What we don’t understand

is why you can

no longer hear

Nearly Wordless

Burst

At a Crossroads (Weekend Anthropology)

We open each ceremony with homage to Elegua.

We offer a libation of water,

and say a simple prayer to him:

“Omi Tutu, Ana Tutu,

Tutu Ile,

Tutu Laroye”

Elegua opens the doors to all endeavors.

He is the guardian of the Crossroads

and the messenger to God.

Prayer does not use up artificial energy, doesn’t burn up any fossil fuel, doesn’t pollute.

Neither does song, neither does love, neither does the dance.

~ Margaret Mead

As Buhdy said recently, we do seem to be at a crossroads.

Toward the Cusp

Needs and Reasons

Until you can understand

the need for the learning

the reason for the teaching

will remain obscure

But that won’t stop

can’t deflect

the teacher

from trying

to teach

One day

some day

in the future

probably more distant

than would be ideal

maybe the lesson

will be learned

and we can move on

to other things

Assembling the Fragments

Introspection

When you build yourself

out of fragments

assembling carefully

that which is good

shedding the bad

like a winter coat

deciding what fits

what is detritus

left suspended

in the wake

of growing up

why would there be

any desire

to conceal

the finished product?

Do I live my life

to minimize your

discomfort

with the idea

of regeneration

rebirth

renaissance

or do I live my life

to improve

our common existence?

Is there really

a choice there?
