Frontiers

Changelings

We twist and turn

in the winds

of a reality

not of our choosing

lepidopterans mounted

on twin boards

of sex

rather than free

to explore

the multiplicity

of gender

In denying

our freedom

you put limits

on your own

Tears

Releasing Fear

One day the Girl

had had enough

She called the Fears together

and they all held hands

And they marched away

from Despondency

Pain was afraid of falling

Humiliation was afraid of failure

and looking foolish

Loss feared leaving behind

what they had

Loneliness feared being separated

Death feared the crocodiles

For an instant

the Girl lost her resolve

and the crocodiles appeared

and the fears wanted to turn

and run away

but the Girl screamed

and lightning struck

and the forest burned

as the Girl and the fears

crouched in the swamp

until the forest

was no more

The Girl led the Fears

to the edge of the swamp

and sent them on their way

And she walked

proudly forward

Arranging the Pieces

Time Passing

Day by day

my hope

for a better world

wanes

as ignorance

dominates

the desire

for knowledge

of what

a better world

might mean

for such as me

I try to pick up

the pieces

of a useful life

and lay them

in a meaningful

pattern

for all to see

Too many

turn away

too often

Opposing Shades

Political Correction

Which freedom trumps?

The freedom

to be obnoxious

about the existence

of people who are

different than you

or the freedom

of those people

to be different

to live lives

free from whatever

debasement

you wish to utter

and whatever defilement

you wish to perform?

Splinters

News

Good news

bad news

steps forward

and steps back

There’s a world ahead

that some day

will be reached

by some of you

if you want it

And there are

some of us

who want it

so very much

who will never

reach it

Oh, the irony

of it all

Intricate Webs

When stress approaches, I used to get rather severe migraines.  Since I was often stressed, this was definitely not pleasant.

The migraines retreated after I transitioned.  But I still get headaches, though not as severe nor with the attendant visual disturbances the migraines came with.  The headaches I get nowadays are mostly of the sinus variety and are connected with allergies, it appears.

But sometimes I do still get stressed.

My strategy now is to try relaxing with my art program, rather than curl up in a dark place with a hot compress.  Mostly it works.

I decided to share what I created the past couple of days just in case someone else might find them useful in relieving some stress.

There are fourteen graphics inside.  Be forewarned.

Friday on Saturday, A Tale

As this tonight is my third “Weekend Anthropology” Essay, I guess it’s officially a Series now. heh. Here are links for the previous essays, last week and the week before.

What I’m hoping to do with these is share some little discovery, a tale, a story or myth, of the “Folk” genre, global, multi-cultural, that relates in some way to our current struggles and living.

The tale I have for you tonight (below) is a Friday’s Eve story from Iran/Middle East that I share to show my support and solidarity for “the Global Day of Action on July 25th so the citizens of the world can stand together for:

* Civil and human rights for the people of Iran;

   * Stopping the abuse of power-the imprisonment, torture and killing?.

   * Solidarity with the Iranian people.

To our Iranian brothers and sisters: We have heard your voices, and you are not alone.

I’ve decided to open each essay with a prayer or blessing, to be sure Trickster gets his due set the tone. 😉

Sun Tracks

Atoni (Choctaw)

The track of the sun

across the Sky

leaves its shining message,

Illuminating,

Strengthening,

Warming,

us who are here,

showing us we are not alone,

we are yet ALIVE!

And this fire……

Our fire…..

Shall not die

Spindled and Mutilated

Female

Her scars were burned deep

when she was young

and she was told

they were her fault

Or was she branded

when she was older

and became mere

domestic property

Was she even still alive

when there finally came

an opening for

her freedom?

Stain

Mistaken

They have said

we are confused

about our gender

making up stories

for illicit purposes

But we know

who we are

not playing games

but living lives

for the better

It is they

who are confused

have forgotten how

to be human

because of hatred

Broken

In Your World

This place

is not of our creation

or it would be

more loving

more accepting

more open

to difference

But you allow

no other possibility

no place for us

to live freely

to share our way

Your world

is so small

too controlling

too compact

to allow space

for us to dream

And so we die

in one way

or another

since it has

no room

for us

Extending a Flower

Hat in Hand

We are people

somewhat like you

but different

deserving of equality

no more

but no less

We shouldn’t

be required

to beg
