Pony Open Thread: What You Can Do

Cost of the War in Iraq

Through October 15, I plan to devote my Pony Party slots to support International Blog Action Day and its focus on our environment. I’ve found a sweet site, Save Our Planet Web Ring, that puts into context the everyday ways in which we can impact the earth for good or bad. I will add my own thing to the list of what we can do: simply, to believe that we have the power to make this world more equitable and more just. Jump below the fold… I really like the examples used by this site

let me get this straight

From Michelle Malkin’s blog

The most buzzworthy story on the right side of the blogosphere this weekend concerned young Graeme Frost… propped up by Democrats desperate to avert the president’s veto of S-CHIP legislation, which would have massively expanded the government health care entitlement.

It appears that Ms. Malkin is concerned about massively expanding the government’s health care entitlement. So I’m pretty sure that Ms. Malkin simply wants to make sure that our taxes dollars are not diverted to something so mundane and middle class as health care. I’m pretty sure she just wants to protect the worthy entitlement programs described below the fold…

Through October 15, I plan to devote my Pony Party slots to support International Blog Action Day and its focus on our environment, of which we are as much a part as any other creature or plant or ecosystem. In fact, we are ecosystems within one, made up of 70% water and 30% earth, much like the surface of our mother, Gaia, Planet Earth.

Republicans attack a 12-year-old

The Frost family v. BushCo:  a modern day David and Goliath story????

This is a story of a Republican movement totally detached from even trying to deceive us anymore. They are hateful.

I suggest reading the Baltimore Sun story first, and then read Kos’s great compilation of reactions.

Through October 15, I plan to devote my Pony Party slots to support International Blog Action Day and its focus on our environment. Tonight, let’s get reacquainted with US PIRG, an advocate for myriad issues from media reform to net neutrality. UP PIRG has a solid record of advocacy for the planet and has great recommendations on actions we can take. Link and intro below the fold.

you can’t believe all the fucking dog hair i just swept up

i had to sweep the floor after this latest development.

And good god, my old dog can shed some hair.

He’s getting more and more bow legged the older he gets. Doesn’t hear very well. We used to walk together all over…now we barely get around the building. Sometimes he has accidents on the rug. He pants. His toenails click click click on the pine floor. And he makes me laugh. He makes me feel my heart and he lets me forget myself to be myself.

He is my guy. Mostly, he just wants a few snacks and to be next to me. And I feel the same.

peace

maybe we could just use the internet to promote peace amongst ourselves, the ordinary everyday people. like between me and armando. he sought me out to have peace in our relationship. it shook me up a little and convinced me this can be done.

i was at pff yesterday. all in all, a very exhausting but very worthwhile experience. some people there feel they are owed an apology. tell me, do we need to negotiate who will be the first to drop their weapons? or do we just do it, and let go of sorting out who started what or why. can we do it without assigning blame and asking for anything in return. even if we are turned out, not welcomed. can we pursue peace there?

it seems to me if desire is the root of the problem then in this case, it’s the desire to be right or to be acknowledged as right. what if that’s exactly what is wrong?

one last thing. maybe this peace thing is just a simple as bypassing governments. maybe we can achieve peace, from one person to the next by “paying it forward” and acknowledging that is what is happening. and the internet can facilitate this. maybe it will end up with warring factions going to each others web sites and asking for peace. ridiculous? maybe. but maybe not.

armando started with me. i brought that to some others.

no letters to write or e-mail petitions to sign. nothing to buy or donate to. just make peace with somebody you’ve been at war with and then ask them to do the same.

Robyn knows about this… her story has stuck with me about her siblings.

Pony Party… The POINT edition

what’s the point in trying to fit in? is there a point?

writing in the raw: the power of one

Horror happens every day… and it can shrivel your very soul. This is dedicated to those among us defying the horror.

maybe weeks…

death. yeah, it really does happen. it’s just hard to believe. and in no way can i understand it.

the full impact of death didn’t really penetrate until my mother died. then i got it. there is nothing personal to it. it just happens.
