Republicans Foster Hate in America

( – promoted by buhdydharma )

Once again the radical right wing known as The Tea Party, that has become the face and voice of the Republican Party, has shown it ugly side and gotten the attention of the media. The Tea Party movement with the blessings and assistance of the Republicans in Congress once again demonstrated that they are arrogant, ignorant, bigots.

The “Partiers” called Democrats, even the ones that supported their misogynist, hate agenda, “baby killers” from the floor of the House and several demonstrators were arrested for shouting racial and hateful epithets from the Gallery. The demonstrators outside and in the halls harassed the Black members of congress with the worst racist insults and even spat on them. They screamed insults at Gay members of the House.

The Republican members of the House refused to criticize these demonstrations and were insulted when they were chastised for their silence.

Last night and this morning, the media called the Republicans out on their hate. On “Countdown”, “The Rachel Maddow Show” and Bob Herbert, in the NYT, took them over the coals.

First, Keith Olbermann with a “Special Comment”, GOP self-destruction imminent. The party’s obsolete ideas will undermine its relevance (the transcript is in the link):

On the Rachel Maddow Show, she, too took them to task for their racist and homophobic hatred, praising the decision by Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, and the Democratic members of the House marching through the demonstrators arm and arm into the Capitol building. (sorry, I can’t find the transcript to Rachel’s comment, yet)

Last and perhaps the most eloquently scathing, NYT columnist, Bob Herbert this morning in his Op-Ed, “The Absence of Class”:

At some point, we have to decide as a country that we just can’t have this: We can’t allow ourselves to remain silent as foaming-at-the-mouth protesters scream the vilest of epithets at members of Congress – epithets that The Times will not allow me to repeat here.

It is 2010, which means it is way past time for decent Americans to rise up against this kind of garbage, to fight it aggressively wherever it appears. And it is time for every American of good will to hold the Republican Party accountable for its role in tolerating, shielding and encouraging foul, mean-spirited and bigoted behavior in its ranks and among its strongest supporters.

   snip

This is the party of trickle down and weapons of mass destruction, the party of birthers and death-panel lunatics. This is the party that genuflects at the altar of right-wing talk radio, with its insane, nauseating, nonstop commitment to hatred and bigotry.

Glenn Beck of Fox News has called President Obama a “racist” and asserted that he “has exposed himself as a guy, over and over and over again, who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture.”

Mike Huckabee, a former Republican presidential candidate, has said of Mr. Obama’s economic policies: “Lenin and Stalin would love this stuff.”

The G.O.P. poisons the political atmosphere and then has the gall to complain about an absence of bipartisanship.

(emphasis mine)

The entire editorial is a must read. It is Mr, Herbert at his best

I may not be a big fan of the Democratic leadership in Congress but Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision the march through those protesters was better than any counter demonstration.

  1. thanks TMC.

Most of the time, I try to ignore the idiots. I just have zero tolerance. And so much of it is faux anyway. It truly galls me that these d-heads are given any credibility at all, much less seats in our government.

  2. Making money off bullshit no matter how absurd, and then canning it and peddling it over and over again. This is the biggest circus of insane distraction I’ve ever seen.

In fact, it’s nearly impossible to separate the media clowns (professional and amateur)from the government ones e.g. talk radio, Tea Baggers and the Repubs in the Senate.

Why the Democrats play along with this is the height of

idiocy. Intelligent Americans now know that they are all

mindless sellouts. We’ve given the keys to democracy to the lunatics, and they run free. I don’t know why history is like that.

  3. …. and I read somewhere today that Dick Armey (think “Freedomworks” and Tea Party honcho ) was a lobbyist for an Iranian group the State Dept. had labeled as “terrorist.”

    Secrets of the Tea Party

Only one month before that populist moment on Capitol Hill, Armey was employed as a lobbyist by leading international “consulting firm” DLA Piper. In that capacity, from 2005 to 2009, Armey promoted the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, otherwise known as Mujahedeen-e-Khalq (MEK), which the State Department has branded a terrorist group. Armey lobbied his former colleagues on behalf of legislation that would have provided taxpayer support to the MEK.

From 2005 to 2008, Ghaemi (Said Ghaemi, an Iranian – American businessman) paid out $910,000 to DLA Piper for the service of Armey, his former staffer Jean Campbell, and a handful of other lobbyists to bring issues relating to Iranian “foreign relations” and “human rights” to the attention of Congress, the Department of Defense, the State Department, the White House, the National Security Council and the Department of the Treasury.

2007 was a banner year for Armey’s work on U.S./Iran relations. Ghaemi shelled out $400,000 for Armey and his team of Capitol Hill lobbyists. There were two bills before Congress that year that would have had a profound effect on U.S.-Iran foreign policy and could have potentially benefited a group of exiled Iranians greatly-namely MEK. Armey, during his time as Ghaemi’s voice on the Hill, became the outspoken proponent of MEK, repeatedly urging Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice to remove the group’s terrorist designation.

Tom Tancredo also was backing this MEK group, which they were trying to get backing for to start another war up by overthrowing the Ahmadinejad govt.   MEK originally was involved in overthrowing the Shah of Iran, then buddied up with Saddam Hussein. (!!!)

I have said all along that there is some real funny money going into this TeaParty movement.

  4. McCarthy and I was very young watching the “hearings” so i don’t remember much but I saw “Point of Order” several times and read a lot….it is repellent to think that the crazies are back!

Just ignore the rah-rah at the beginning but look what passing this bill has generated. Why isn’t this man in custody?

  6. that the Democratic Party and its neoliberal “leaders” are going to screw the country right, left, and center, and the main opposition to the sh*t going down will be from a bunch of gun-toting, arrogant, unthinking, unknowing drama queens.
