2012 Presidential Debate 3

Thank goodness for Baseball.

Because they tape early Jon (D.L. Hughley) and Stephen (Donald Sadoway) will be mercifully free from actual debate coverage.  If even that is a mite too much there is always…

Or you can watch a different kind of professional wrestling where the results are fixed.

This debate is back to the 10 minute segment, 2 for each candidate, 6 minutes of freestyle all the Very Serious Progressives agreed that Jim Lehrer did a bad job at because Obama lost.  My attitude is that if principles and fairness don’t matter more that personality worship and the jingoistic triumph of the tribe you can hardly claim to be very ‘progressive’ at all, let alone serious.

Most likely it will be a contest to see who can pander the most to Benjamin Netanyahu who is not to be confused with the State of Israel or the Jewish people.  Part of that is practicing anti-Muslim bigotry which is why Muslims like us so much.

Well, that and the fact that we keep stealing from them and killing their families and friends which are always sympathetic qualities calculated to influence hearts and minds.

As I said in Kill List it’s not really a question about them.  Just as with W you may be excused for not understanding initially who you were voting for and what their policies actually are.

After 4 years you have no excuse.

The question you have to answer for yourself is this one-

What will it take?  How many innocents will have to die before you can no longer ignore the corpses?

Are you a ‘Good German’ or not?

There are vast differences, vast I tell you!  At least the trains run on time!

Do they?

The group that consistently cares more about the deficit are, simply put, rich people. They don’t want their hard-earned massive tax cuts to get clawed back because the deficit gets so high that they can no longer use the “job creator” charade to shield themselves. So they obsess about the deficit, as a means to cut anything but their tax cuts. That’s the game. And the rich spend tens of millions to make that a reality, shaping opinions in Washington. The Democrats have sought to become the party of austerity in many ways to curry favor to a political class that demands so-called “fiscal responsibility.” But in reality, without our large deficit, we would not even have the recovery we have, a recovery that has outpaced the rest of the world, particularly in Europe, where they are mired in far more damaging austerity.

I confess that I find myself far more interested and invested in Sports Futures than I am in anything that’s likely to be said or done in Florida tonight.

This is an Open Thread.

  1. This is how liberals become right wing Republicans in everything but the name.

Sure, Obama won the debate.  It appears the aroma of testosterone in the room was at just the right temperature and viscosity.

I wonder how many people will realize that Romney agreeing so much with what President Obama is doing says more about President Obama and his reactionary military and foreign policy than it actually says about Romney when everyone knows what Romney is about. In every case,

Obama was soothing the bug eyed insane Republican candidate with insane right wing military policy, and the bug eyed insane Republican candidate was successfully soothed by Obama’s smooth flawless execution of neoliberal economic policy and neoconservative foreign policy.

Yes, President Obama soothed to Romney, we will continue to proceed with insane military expenditures, just not quite so immediately and cripplingly insane as you propose.  Instead, we will shuck the American economy of every last ounce of vitality, year after bloody year, until first, there are no unions, then there are no well paid workers, then there is no middle class at all, and all there is at the very end is a jingoistically honored military and the elite and garbage can eating civilians.  And, Obama assures Romney, we will do this carefully, oh so carefully, in ten or fifteen years and not two.

After all, President Obama assures us, he is the Serious Adult in the Room between himself and Romney.

And he is.  Because he has only Mitt Romney.

Yes, President Obama soothed Romney, we will continue to project our military forces all over the world, to places as diverse as Iran and the South China Sea.

We will utterly bankrupt ourselves, President Obama assures Romney, on nuclear subs and aircraft carriers.  There is no need, he cooed to Romney, to obsess over numbers. It is hard to see how Romney could even help but agree. To not agree on the right would to be advocating bug eyed insanity beyond what Obama was proposing, and Romney had decided he had to appear sane for this debate, within the narrow margins.

As with the second debate, it is indeed mystifying how people who can call themselves liberal or progressive with a straight face can like this train of events, except to say, “Yes, I like that rain of oil from the sky!” “I like the surge!” “I love drone strikes on innocents!” “I love war for Israel” and “I like nuclear war in the middle east”.All for the benefit of Greater Obama.

I wonder how many people will realize this debate and every lurid, violence loving perversion it proposes will be swept aside by the tide of history. That America someday, someday very soon, will no longer be able to afford its dozen or so aircraft carriers, its nuclear subs, its thousands of nuclear missiles, its nutty little continuous wars that are pursued solely for the benefit of Boeing, Halliburton and Xe, and collapse, helpless, like the former Soviet Union, but twice as hard. It will just, sooner or later, within five years, I predict, and not twenty, stop. being. possible. at. all.

Unless planning is done, which both Romney and Obama are proposing to do the exact opposite of planning, except to burn out America with ever greater zeal.

Because of Romney’s ideology, whether or not he wins, because of Obama’s, America will be swept aside.  Downfall.  And this debate, and debates like it, of moronic stupidity in the guise of national policy is the crux of it.

I am sure the usual suspects will marvel over the brilliant performance, and valiantly ignore the rain of oil and blood from the sky, even as their cheeks are darkened with it.

I am sure the talk will flow for weeks, how Romney utterly lied about and shifted his positions, and Obama’s valiance in articulating PNAC philosophy, only oh so competently will be cooed over.

And all the conversation will be about winning. ‘Till the election.

  2. that people will gag.  What I’ve witnessed in the last three debates is something so fantastically, so deeply deeply evil, it’s almost impossible to credit.

That wasn’t the two candidates by themselves.

This was the candidates, and every supporter with a fatuous and bullshit meme, such as “this is war” and “they are all going to lead a charge up San Juan Hill, live with it”.

That was the contrived discussion in which it was possible for the two candidates to discuss murdering people by the thousands and perhaps millions on no reason whatsoever; and for the people in support of those people, to ignore the content of those suggestions in toto, to completely disregard every content of personal and planetary evil, because their candidate might win the election.

And for people here and elsewhere who describe themselves as liberals to be so inured to the disgusting evil of the suggestions involved, as to behave as if those suggestions were not there at all.

And the ultimate, inescapable truth being, people of supposedly good will and character will completely ignore murderous content in favor of side-ism.

Shame on John Aravosis.  Shame on Rachel Maddow.  Shame on everyone who is so afraid of Republicans, so desperate, they will contemplate anything, no matter how evil, no matter how savage, no matter how disgusting, how ultimately self defeating, to agree with a Republican’s very core existence to defeat him.

It’s pyrrhic. To ignore such evil in fear of it, is to create it, to take it in, to make it part of one’s souls. I have watched liberal friends justify torture and lawless murder.

Obama supporters, and their candidate, are discussing using or provoking a nuclear bomb being set of in the middle east, because of Romney.

Obama supporters, and their candidate, are discussing spending a trillion dollars on missiles, and Halliburton, and Xe, and Boeing, because to do otherwise would be to give Romney an opening, and murdering a million people might be preferable to that happening.

Obama supporters, and their candidate, are discussing poisoning the Earth with gigatons of CO2, because of Romney. Leading to the death of every man, every woman, every human, and almost every lifeform, down to the last camel, the last horse, the last eagle, the last RAT, to DEATH of us all, and every one of those species, because Romney wants Federal lands drilled and Obama needed a cutesy defense to that bullshit argument rather than attacking its insane premise.

Obama supporters are so desperate, so crazy, so insane, they are giving away everything, no matter how disgusting and evil, it might not even matter if the world were given to the likes of Romney.
