“I was on the ground sobbing and couldn’t breathe,” she said. The continuing protests, against a financial system that participants say favors the rich and powerful over ordinary citizens, started last Saturday and were coordinated by a New York group called the General Assembly.

Many of those taking part have slept in Zuccotti Park, which is private, using it as a base. In the early afternoon hundreds of people left the park and moved north toward Union Square. Witnesses said that for much of the route, protesters spilled from sidewalks onto streets and added that the police used long orange nets at Fifth Avenue and 14th Street in an apparent attempt to block the march from proceeding.

  1. when peaceful protests we never otherwise would have heard about cause this.

  2. This is a small spark, I hope it ignites. The fact that

the MSM is not covering this is an example of how it

tries to influence thought. I have never ever used this phrase before: conspiracy of silence. They cover so much triviality and nonsense and teabagger barbecues, but this

isn’t newsworthy? What scares me is the same thing that pissed me off in the civil rights movement and anti war movement of the 60’s: Cops following orders. Deja Vu

I worry about provocateurs and how the “state” has evolved into an invisible, omnipresent force. My fear: if 99% of the people don’t know about these protests or they are trivialized, it will be much easier to crush it/them.

The media/govt doesn’t show soldiers returning in coffins, the suffering of the victims of American imperialism, so why tolerate pesky demonstrations that might upset the apple cart? And we have Wall Street and banking news 24/7,

take the temperature of the abstract, statistical economy,

but never quite get to see actual misery and pain.
