Obama’s self-immolation.

Seriously, dude.  Go out and buy that pack of cigarettes already.

President Obama plans to announce a three-year freeze on discretionary, “non-security” spending in the lead-up to Wednesday’s State of the Union address, Hill Democratic sources familiar with President Obama plans to announce a three-year freeze on discretionary, “non-security” spending in the lead-up to Wednesday’s State of the Union address, Hill Democratic sources familiar with the plan tell POLITICO.

Mr. President, wouldn’t it be kinder to ritually disembowel yourself with a sword?  To honorably throw yourself upon the country’s funeral pyre?  Perhaps an over-dose of sodium pentobarbital would provide a gentler exit?

And get the reasoning behind this:

The move, intended to blunt the populist backlash against Obama’s $787 billion stimulus and an era of trillion-dollar deficits – and to quell Democratic anxiety over last Tuesday’s Massachusetts Senate election …

Obama’s latest political stunts aimed at “quelling the populist backlash” are not only the ridiculous make-up and clown shoes of political burlesque, but sheer insanity.  The blow out in 2010 will be spectacular.   Bush and the Republicans were a hard act to follow, but Democrats and especially Mr. President, you’ve outdone yourselves.  Chases, collisions, pratfalls, and boisterous comedy.  Bring out the slapsticks.

Now, watch me pull a rabbit out of the hat!

  1. The so-called “Volcker rule” is pure political bunk.

  2. … quit this damned shit, and I haven’t smoked in about 35 years.

I was wanting one real bad last week.

We could start collecting the funniest tags for all the reactions to this in the next 24 hours.

  3. people who are keeping this whole kabuki going, you know, with their salaries and taxes and all that other pesky productive stuff.  Once they’re all out of work, then we will have the perfect economy, one in which no one makes anything.

Those who are able to operate only with the productive input of these people, those are the people whose budgets we will NOT freeze.

Along with those who skim the cream.

  4. to myself… lol. I admit that I am almost perversely averse to all things economic. and a few other areas too, and I dont know much about FDR’s New Deal and job growth and shovel ready bla bla bla BUT… when I was all evening in a computer lock out (due to virus crap) and I saw this on my teevee, even I immediately blurted out: WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU! YOU DOUCHEHEAD! HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?!?!?

    1. Bad idea.

    2. Horrible timing, & messaging.

    3. oy

it’s becoming increasingly clear that the dude was hired to take the fall. The only thing that makes any sense is that a bunch of Daddy Warbuck types hired this guy to settle down blacks and muslims and the half-wits on the left for the new austerity that they will implement.

Obama is just a guy hired to do this job — clearly he’s doing what he can with his assignment but a President today is no longer in charge. We have to start with the job of finding out who the actual actors are in this drama. How does power work in Washington and elsewhere? We focus on the distraction (WH and Congress) and don’t bother to focus on the puppetmasters. They are there — I’ve seen them and known them, or at least some of their operatives (I worked on K Street). I don’t have answers — I have data. Can’t we start looking into this here on DD? How many times to we have to hit our heads? How many times to do we have to be dissapointed! Let’s get to work and put the focus on where it needs to be.

We have to start by taking a vaccination against American Exceptionalism and understand the the government does not work like it does in the Civics text books. You have to understand that power does, indeed, come out of a barrel of a gun or whatever instrument of force you propose. If we aren’t going to be political actors (we have no “guns” at our disposal) let’s at least expose who are the real actors.

  5. there is something surreal about it. It all seems to be counter intuitive, like a painting with hidden symbolism and exaggerated distraction. It’s almost if Bush handed the baton off to Obama and off he ran, on the same track, in the same lane with the same goals. All I can think of is we’ve entered the singularity in the black hole of nihilistic capitalism, a sort of modern, uncontrolled financial unravelling of a fictional value system to begin with. In a few years we’ll wish we had wampum beads, and this is not meant as a joke!

who the Republicans are – watch CNBC for a half day (if you can stomach it) – Orrin Hatch just spoke about the nefarious Dems trying to ram legislation without reaching out to the Republicans.  How is it they have resurged stronger than ever – of course, Erin must have neck problems for all the nodding she’s doing.  She needs to get out on Main Street.  I wonder if she got any help getting thru university from the government – I often wonder that with these people.  Have any of them ever had any help from the government?  Certainly not is their attitude.

Plus there is one of those counter sign showing the deficit which goes up every moment – that is all they are talking about – the deficit.

As well, Elmendorf (who is neutral and is just talking about nuts and bolts) was asked in effect is it becoming necessary to cut in whole one of the big entitlement programs.  No one mentioned defense.  Elmendorf (is that his name) did mention bush tax cuts which are expiring and how that would fit into the mix.  That subject was changed as quickly as Whitey Ford’s fast ball (well, okay I’m dating myself – but you get it).
