Grampy is the King

My strange and unique communication skills with a two year old grandson once again illustrate the miracles of Christmas.  Or perhaps something even greater than that, the miracle of a simple act of love.  A two year old shows me the universal love of God.

In our house we now “do Christmas” on Christmas Eve which means all of my immediate and closest family exchanges gifts tonight.  Much of the joy of Christmas is focused upon the person who happens to be the youngest and most impressionable of the bunch so this year that is my grandson.  I am and have been the King of his word since our magical ATV ride but tonight he again showed me the power of positive thought.

In the wonderful occasion we start to open the presents starting mostly with grandson Dave.  He opens a big gift that Grampy has to help him put together.  He watches my every move and then helps me by giving me the proper parts in the proper order.  I coach him by showing him by demonstrating how to assemble by saying wheel, axil, then hubcap as I put together the six wheels of a large car carrying bus.

The tide turns afterwards as the adults are involved in scratching lottery tickets and little Dave became somewhat bored with the goings on.  He was not the apparent center of attention.  I sat him next to me on the couch and explained that these little cards were presents for Mama and Dada.  This “thing” that Mama and Dada were doing meant money and presents.  It actually did take me a couple of sentences and direct eye contact with a two year old but then the focus changed.  He gave me a big grin and then took a spot at the lottery ticket scratching coffee table next to Ma and Dad.  He was happy when Ma found a winner.  Yet more so a two year old is melting the heart of the guy who has proclaimed to the entire world that he wants to ride the final horse of the Biblical Apocalypse.

Such are the conflicts between good and evil.  May such things be not as bad as the adults assume.  Should we not destoy ourselves now may I be worthy to guide this child, my soul mate in his quest for sanity and peace.

He is still talking in his very own language yet he does understand the warnings of his parents and that wonderous freedom he loves at Grampy’

s house.  He has learned to use that special “Grampy immunity” when he comes to my house and I have taken the option more often lately to let his parents  have more say even if Dave is at the magical house of Grampy.

  2. …the world still has, i think, myriad possibilities.  It may be that we have thoughtlessly ridden into the inevitability of the apocalypse, but yet i still see the edge of possibility which resides in the future, in the fruit which comes from us.

Blessings to you and your family in these holiday celebrations.
