DRILLING, DRILLING, DRILLING!

(11 am. – promoted by ek hornbeck)

First, I support A Siegel for his many articles on energy issues — Get Energy Smart! NOW!!! and his article Whitehouse Drills Drilling has prompted this from me.  (Well, to be honest, it’s been on my mind a lot as it is, anyway!)

~~~~~
THE very most important issue facing us right NOW is global warming — it concerns the survival of the universe, itself!
We need more (Sen. Sheldon) Whitehouses who would state emphatically
. . . do any of you seriously contend that drilling for more oil is the number one issue facing the American people today?
As we know, WE have the technology right now to turn our energy consumption into other alternatives, windmills, solar panels, alcohol (derived from numerous non-edible sources, such as sugar beets, hemp, cattails*, etc.) for use as fuel for our motor driven vehicles.  It’s clean and efficient.  *Cattails also can serve as a “filter” to prevent “dead zones” in our waters.
The oil companies know this, as do all their buddies.  Of course, they don’t want to give up their 300% (obscene {estimate}) plus profits and control over energy now or ever.
What we need to do is simply turn away from the oil companies, convince Congress that we need to support alternative energies (for the sake of gaining investment into those enterprises by individuals, etc., thereby giving us a chance to truly implement those alternative energies).
It’s kinda’ funny that the most serious issue as confronts humanity right now, might also be it’s economic savior!
I may have already posted this, but, nonetheless, I’m posting it again, here is an ACTION PAGE from NRDC:
Tell Congress: Don’t Give a Dime to Cut Wildlife’s Lifeline
Urge Congress to use its “power of the purse” to block the Bush Administration’s plan to weaken the Endangered Species Act.
All it takes is one click to tell your Senators and Representative to snap that purse firmly shut – and stop this attack on wildlife.
We need to get the word out.  First, any drillings offshore and in the Arctic would not reap any results  before 2017.  Second, what is REALLY going on is nothing but a last minute “land grab” by the oil people.  They already own/lease much land upon which they can exploit.  But the REAL point is WE need to turn away from it ALL.
And, most important of all:  Are we to finally destroy a pristine environment of so many species of wildlife, as well as its indigenous peoples, which, once destroyed, can never be returned to us, nor the ecological balance that their existence affords us?  As everyone should know, the ice caps are melting rapidly — does seeing a polar bear sitting on a mere smidge of an ice cap make you happy, knowing that their ability to trap food for themselves is quickly “melting” away?
While there are many problems as confront us politically, it ISN’T with a McCain-Palin ticket that’s going to help us with respect to global warming  (all you have to do is check out McCain’s voting record).
In the meantime, we need to do all that WE can to PREVENT the oil people from “grabbing” our offshore sites and the National Arctic Wildlife Refuge, and causing the DESTRUCTION OF THEM!
NEW: Also, I meant to include this Action Page from Al Gore’s “WE Can Solve The Climate Crisis”  Important issues to be used when contacting Congressional members!!
Congressional action on this issue is forthcoming very soon (for the umpteenth time).  Please ACT NOW!
    I hope you don’t mind that I fixed it.
  2. each time I think of McCain (nomination acceptance speech) — “Oh, yes, we’re going to use windmills, solar energy, ethanol . . . ”  Then he turned around and said, “Yes, we’re going to open up the offshore sites for drilling and the Arctic region and we’re going to drill and drill . . . we’ll get away from our energy dependence (not verbatim, but close). . . .”
    McCain’s soft in the head and Palin has NO concern for the indigenous Alaskan Indians, much less the anmials (you need only review her record on killing the wolves and other animals and beyond) (see winter rabbit’s essay — Biden Vs. Palin on Indigenous Issues
