More Outrage from Denver: ABC News producer arrested for taking pictures in public.

I just talked to Jane Hamsher of FDL who told me an ABC News producer was arrested for taking pictures of fat cat donors coming out of a fund raiser. Here’s the diary she wrote at Firedoglake. But Brian Ross of ABC News has the story. Check it out.

“Police in Denver arrested an ABC News producer today as he and a camera crew were attempting to take pictures on a public sidewalk of Democratic Senators and VIP donors leaving a private meeting at the Brown’s Palace Hotel.

Police on the scene refused to tell ABC lawyers the charges against the producer, Asa Eslocker, who works with the ABC News investigative unit.

A police official later told lawyers for ABC News that Eslocker is being charged with trespass, interference, and failure to follow a lawful order. He also said the arrest followed a signed complaint from the Brown Palace Hotel.

Eslocker was put in handcuffs and loaded in the back of a police van which headed for a nearby police station.

… Eslocker and his ABC News colleagues are spending the week investigating the role of corporate lobbyists and wealthy donors at the convention for a series of Money Trail reports on ABC World News with Charles Gibson.”

You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding. Me.

Here’s the link to the story. They’re not just going after activists…. now they’re going after…

THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA?

Sweet Jesus! What have we come to? Spread the word…. and more to come.

    than it first appears.

They. Just. Turned. Major MSM. Against. Themselves.

Watch this develop… ABC is no lightweight… they can destroy these guys.

For one thing, among others you can probably think of, ABC does not have to accept advertising from anyone.

unless he’s obstructing an entrance or exit, it’s not interference and, if it’s neither, it’s not a legal order.

Guess what Americans, did you know it’s a violation of the Constitution to just arrest people for no reason?  In fact, it’s a Constitutional tort and, if someone really wants to push it, will likely result in the award of significant damages against the City and the loss of a job by the arresting officer . . . just sayin.  I guess the cities must have insurance for this so they can get away with it.

…. Digg Jane Hamsher’s story. The more the better. That’ll make some ripples. Thanks guys.

  2. This whole situation reeks to high heaven!  Who, pray tell, but who authorized these POLICE to perform this way?  The Dems?  BushCo?  Are you aware of the baton attacks on some Code Pink people?  Pretty f….g disgusting — obvious attempts to surpress our 1st amendment rights, illegally.  When people have no weapons other than their voices, what right do the police have to hit them, arrest them, etc?

Here’s a clip of the baton hits by Police in Denver:

  3. This was posted in comments at the ABC site:

I just called the pr girl at the Brown Palace Hotel. Great girl. Story is bogus. She said the camera guy was blocking the entrance. They nevere said thaty they owned the side walk, and the cops asked the nimrods 5 times to move. I hate liberals, but this story would make Dan Rather blush!
