August 6, 2001 – We Will Never Forget

You may remember my brother the activist.  I keep trying to get him to post, but he’s shy and busy.  He sent me this yesterday and I thought I’d share it with you.- ek

I need to add that he’s a great admirer of James Carville’s political savvy (though not his policies) and one story he likes to tell is how during the height of Monica-gate Carville was on one of the Talking Head shows and made a point about how important it is to stay on message.  Carville then proceeded to demonstrate his gift by working the phrase “Cigarette Lawyer Ken Starr” 27 times into the next 30 seconds.- ek

  1. My brother’s suggested Tip Jar-

7 years later, THIS DATE needs to be remembered.

  2. …that and the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, which is the clear tangent.  The right wing’s more direct and grandiose conflation doesn’t work for me, but neither in some sense does this.  I dunno…sorry…I’m just another crank…

  3. in order for them to get a free pass to go into the Middle East and Central Asia and rearrange the political landscape. So why not let Bin Laden knock down a couple of buildings, when it gets us some nice, fat oil contracts?

  4. Yesterday – August 6, 2008!

Today is the 63rd anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima, Japan. That attack, and the bombing of Nagasaki three days later, remain the only nuclear attacks on civilians in history.

In honor of Hiroshima Day, we’d like to take a minute to reflect on just how absurd it is for America to maintain 10,000 nuclear bombs. Defense experts say that many simply aren’t needed, and by reducing the nuclear arsenal our country could save $14 billion dollars — more than enough to save the lives of six million kids who die of starvation in impoverished nations each year.
