Crushing the Right

Archangel M is right, we, the Left, have been in a fevered dream for years now.

It is time for the Left to wake up.

Despite all the laughable post-partisan talk right now, this IS our opportunity to crush the Right. Their brand of politics, their hateful and divisive vision for America…but especially their bankrupt and broken ideology.

In the 1960’s, a wave of creative energy intersected with a booming population to create a massive amount of chaotic change. Conservatives don’t like change. So they crafted a decades long backlash against the newly reborn ideas of peace, justice, equality and respect for all and that was so successful we have wound up at its culmination…and demise we fervently hope…with the Worst. President. Ever.

And, not that you need reminding, years of unfettered complete control of Congress. I will say it again, since this needs to be hammered home again and again….The Right had FULL CONTROL to do whatever they want, the Republicans were totally dominant politically for year after year, the Conservatives had the entire government under their sole control, to create whatever reality they wanted to, enact the policies they longed deep in their hearts for….and the America we see today is what they created. This IS the America the Right wants. And when it comes right down to it, all they really care about.

The rich (them) getting richer………and making sure that the lower and middle classes are too powerless, and too cowed, to do anything about it.

Richest Americans See Their Income Share Grow

By JESSE DRUCKER

In a new sign of increasing inequality in the U.S., the richest 1% of Americans in 2006 garnered the highest share of the nation’s adjusted gross income for two decades, and possibly the highest since 1929, according to Internal Revenue Service data.

Meanwhile, the average tax rate of the wealthiest 1% fell to its lowest level in at least 18 years.

Good for them! Bad for everyone else.

Record home losses in California

As foreclosures in the state soar, federal lawmakers may vote Wednesday on a bill seeking to address the mortgage crisis.

The price tag for the nation’s housing crisis escalated again with reports Tuesday that a record number of Californians lost their homes to foreclosure in the last three months and that a potential bailout of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could reach $25 billion.

This is not about revenge, this is about ending…crushing….a destructive political and societal force in America and the world. The Conservative movement, give everything it could possibly ask for to show its worth…. has failed, catastrophically. It is time to end its influence.

And despite what the shameful enablers may say, the first step to doing that is accountability.

As we exit the fevered dream….the nightmare….of the last eight years of unfettered Republican rule….as we awaken from the coma which the (somehow) unexpected brutal, full out, no holds barred assault by the Right on everything that America is supposed to stand for, Truth, Justice, Equality, Human Rights….all that crap that the Right is willing to trade for cash and the illusion of security….

The “leaders” on the Left are either still in the coma of cowardice resulting from Republican Rule, or have been bought off by the idea of the unfettered power that THEY are about to enjoy, and willing to not just let the excesses and crimes of the last eight years be swept under the rug, but actually hold the rug up while the pundits and villagers and apologists and post-partisans sweep.

George W. Bush has been more sparing than most presidents in handing out pardons, but it is starting to seem that the conclusion of his term in office may be marked by a generous use of the pardon power to let members of his own administration off the hook. What’s more, constitutional lawyer Jonathan Turley believes that the Democrats will let him get away with it.

“The Democrats are trying very hard to show … that they’re not going to re-open these issues and that the Bush crimes will remain buried for all time,” Turley told MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann on Tuesday. “It would start a new administration on the same level that George Bush left it. And that’s a very sad thing.”

Turley was particularly concerned about a recent statement by law professor Cass Sunstein, an Obama adviser, that only “egregious” crimes by Bush officials should be prosecuted by an Obama administration.

“We’ve had eight years of moral relativism and the avoidance of legal process,” stated Turley. “And to start a major campaign with the suggestion that we’re going to distinguish between egregious and non-egregious crimes promises more of the same.”

Morally, politically, economically, diplomatically….categorically…The Republican Right Wing has, I reiterate, failed catastrophically.

They MUST pay. Not out of revenge, but to keep it from happening again…and again

This, despite what the Villagers and PTB seem to think, is not a game. These are decisions that affect the life of every person on the planet….and to have gotten it, gotten EVERYTHING so very very wrong should have severe consequences.

This is REAL LIFE, dammit. These are peoples lives on the line. It is not about comity or reasonableness or bi-partisanship for bi-partisanships sake. It is not. a. fucking. game.

The Right had their chance, and blew it. It is time to fully expose who and what they are, it is time to stop them, before they kill again. It is time to crush them.

because for a long time I thought it would distract from pressuring the democratic leadership and especially Pelosi to end the Iraq occupation.  But it’s become fairly obvious I think over the past year that she and most of the democratic leadership are not just capitulating to Bush but actively helping his agendas, and that the occupation will not end for years if ever.

For her part I suspect, and it’s just gut feeling, that she has opposed it all along because it may expose too much criminal complicity on their part and that she’d be effectively “impeaching” herself and a few other “democrats” along with Bush.

It’s probably too late now anyway for impeachment to be of much use in stopping anything Bush does or might do, EXCEPT issue pre-emptive pardons. Which of course he will do if he can – he’s got nothing to lose at this point.

    String him up. Crucify him.

that will last until it is washed out.  Unless dealt with, this country continues its downward trend.
