Santa Baby, let’s talk

(Cross-posted at Daily Kos)

Santa, honey, last year you left a wonderful CD for me, a two-disc set, “The Very Best of Eartha Kitt,” which includes not one, but two, versions of “Santa, Baby.” Now Santa, you know Eartha had something to say, sort of a “let’s get real talk,” so leave a little time for a chat as you sweep by for cookies and milk tonight.

An honest chat. It doesn’t have to be long. I know you’re busy. I’ll be truthful and I’ll keep it short, I promise. (I’m too mature for sweet. We’ll let it go at that.)

I’ve thought long and hard about this gift business, and I almost sent word for you to skip my house this year. We give too much business, anyway, to the corporate lords. But something stopped me from mentally telegraphing that message to you.

I’m blessed with a wonderful family, so I hope you’ll focus on those six grandchildren instead of me. Friends, too. And I learn from them all and love them all – even the ones I haven’t met in person, yet. You know, like the ones I meet via the Internet. (Take care of them all, would ya?)

Santa Baby, I want to look into your eyes when I tell you what I want. It’s a tall order, but I have faith in your abilities, really I do. I want your trust that what I’m asking for is the truth. Cross my heart.

What I need and what I want for the rest of the world is not World Peace. No, no, no … that’s just not honest. It can’t be done – except for that magical hour when Christmas Eve becomes Christmas Day. I’ve heard stories about that.

No, honey, what I need is wisdom. What the world needs now, Santa, is wisdom. What our country needs now is wisdom. So, if you’ll just take a sec and let me tell you in person. Tonight, Santa Baby.

I’ll light a candle for you.

Baby, I’ll be waiting.

My heartfelt wishes to all for joy and peace in your hearts for the holidays … and wisdom thereafter.

Love,

Caneel
