You Don’t Say?

From today’s New York Times:

Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut said the special inspector general has shown, once again, “how vulnerable the federal government is to waste when it doesn’t invest up front in proper contract oversight.” He added, “This scenario is far too frequent across the federal government: we spend billions of dollars for goods and services with no oversight plans in place and hope and pray that an audit will identify any mistakes later.”

Well, no shit!

Nice glass house there, Mr. “Connecticut for Lieberman” stone-thrower.

You gotta wonder whether the reporter wrote it like that just for the sheer perfection of self-satire.

Hey Joe Lieberman:  fuck you.  You spend, hope, and pray;  we kicked you out of the party for your warmongering corruption.

May the spirits of all who suffered and perished as a consequence for what you did, do, and will yet do visit withering anguish upon you, for the rest of your days.

(Thanks Magnifico et. al. for your comments; I’m not being rude, it’s just that the damn Treo I’m on right now won’t let me comment here…)

  1. Yeah Clueless Joe said that, but the story is huge! Way bigger than the Lieberman’s ability to contain or distract from.

The SIGIR had to temporarily suspend their audit because the accounting records are in ‘disarray’ – meaning they either don’t exist or are so bad or faked that something else is afoot. And, of course, it’ll take 3-5 years to sort out the mess, giving the Bush junta enough time to get free and clear.

MSNBC is reporting “The State Department admits that it was unable to reconcile the books for the entire period of February 2004 to October 2006”. That is 2.5 years for $1.2 billion going to a private mercenary army in Iraq.

TPMmuckraker is reporting that Waxman Wants State Dep’t DynCorp Documents and, get this, Miss Condeleezza has actually agreed to testify before the committee this Thursday, October 25.

Now I’m not going to hold my breath that a) she’ll appear, or b) be held accountable – I’ve been disappointed so far, but maybe, just maybe…

Since Blackwater is likely to be yanked from Iraq, the mercs business was going to be picked up by DynCorp and/or Triple Canopy (TC). So, if Waxman and the committee do their jobs, then this will smoke out DynCorp – leaving just TC.

The Bush administration cannot occupy Iraq without using mercs… something has got to give.
