Is Global Warming set to turn around?

We all remember this famous graph, right?

Well, assuming that this graph is correct (and how couldn’t it be given
it’s source*) there may be new evidence that global cooling is just
around the corner! 🙂

Pirate Attacks Up 14 Percent Worldwide, Reports Watchdog

———————————————————-

* Actually the graph does contain an obvious error in the number of pirates in the first data point.

Is it even worth the trouble? I doubt it.

But, here’s one I’ve been using for years.

Let’s say there are two possibilites in the Global Warming debate. Either all the Carbon Dioxide and other chemicals we are pumping into the air are having a negative effect, or they are not.

Now, let’s say there are 2 options here. Either do something, or do nothing.

OK, I hope this isn’t too complicated to follow, but this would lead to a grid.

Option A: No man-made effect, Do nothing. Net result = good.

Option B: No man-made effect, Do something. Net result = some wasted dollars, but a less poluted environment.

Option C: Man-made effect, Do something. Net result = good.

Option D: Man-made effect, Do nothing. Net result = bad, or very bad, or possibly even VERY VERY BAD.

OK, hopefully this isn’t too difficult like I said.

It would seem to me, DOING SOMETHING is a far far better option than DOING NOTHING.

    Is this even remotely logical?

Do you think it’s possible, just remotely possible, that Rush Limbaugh is wrong and thousands of scientists around the world are right?

If it is possible, isn’t the best course of action to try do something about the problem?

Sigh. I suspect I just totally wasted 5 minutes of my life.

    That you, Steve Milloy??

It’s my pet peeve, ya know?  Those damned paid shills make more money than me.

But isn’t that always the way of it?  Those who actually do the work struggle.  Those who whore for the deniers, eat their steak (yuk) and get fat on their own lies, while wasting the time of those who actually work:

The “Have you stopped beating your wife yet (yes/no)” questionnaire

    – david @ 6:42 PM

I got an email ‘Climate Expert Survey’ today from DemandDebate.com, a creation of Steve Milloy. Milloy has practiced to deceive before in the climate arena, and his junkscience.com, claiming to debunk the junk science of others, is actually a terrific source of specious deception in its own right.  This survey looks like another such initiative.

So, Stevie, have you stopped beating your wife yet??

    Yes or No.

    Arg.

    Total Forcing = 5.35 log(CO2_e/CO2_orig) considering that CO2_orig is a 1750 concentration (at 278 ppmv).

But then, I wouldn’t expect you pirates to understand that.

    Double arg.

when it was “Talk Like A Pirate!” day?

Hey, I have an idea, let’s do absolutely nothing about global warming, in fact, how about we just keep burning crap and dumping it into our atmosphere.
I think you’re right, there’s nothing to worry about.
So what if we destroy our planet…no biggie!
    Stupid Libruls!  What’s their problem!?!

The only reason the Right denies it is because the Right operates on different epistemological principles than the scientists.

Scientists believe in statements-of-fact when experimental results indicate its truth.  The Right believes in something when it corresponds to the hunch that believing in X will be financially profitable for the believer.

Believing in abrupt climate change (“global warming” is not the real term) doesn’t appear to be profitable.  Therefore, the Right concludes, it must be false.
