Off The Wall :: Meta, Mega Meta, and Nina

“Off The Wall” (OTW) is my ongoing Thursday Series about life, cultures, and random stuff that preoccupies my mind. (NOTE: today is Thursday on Wednesday… I’ll be out of pocket for much of tomorrow morning, so publishing early, as per the muse.)

“There is nothing noble in being superior to some other person.

The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self.”

meta, mega meta, and nina, emo’s emu’s and empaths…

I know, I know. Enough with the meta. Enough with blathering on about That Other Place and all that.  I’m not actually going to get deep into the GOS meta.mud here. At least, not right outta the gate. lol. Let’s have a little Nina:

What I have churning in my head, in response to all the meta, is more…. a stepping back. A looking inward. And an effort to try to look at The Big Picture.  Keep perspective. Gain perspectives.

There are struggles and then there are struggles.

If somebody on a blog calls you names and says that your “intelligence and self awareness are less than that of an overripe zucchini”, or worse, and you react with rage … uhm … you might want to consider taking a break from blogging.

The wars in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and elsewhere continue with slaughter of innocents;

And what’s a War without War Crimes?;

Prisoners continue to languish in GITMO;

Where is the accountability for torture injustices? including our own soldiers;

There’s the Slavery Denial FacePalm;

Women’s Reproductive Rights were thrown under the bus-able in HIR by Dems;

Education still a mess… children are being Left Behind and Teachers are getting the boot for it.

…don’t even get me started on social security or the  economy

…and don’t forget! April 15 is tax day.

Sparring, one-upmanship and lobbing insults or HR’ing them … is just not how I choose to spend my time or energy. (okay, there’s some funny ones in that link.)

Don’t we have more important things to do? I know I do. And I don’t mean that stack of paper in my To Be Filed pile. (that too though). But the insults and all, that’s not really the point. Not at all.

You don’t get to ‘drive the narrative’ if you refuse to even get on the bus.

Simple basic reminder…

As buhdy just telepathed me (LOLOL)… We have the illusion of a halfway decentreaganite Democrat President now so the importance of activism is all the more imperative now than ever. Okay, I paraphrased it a little. 😉

We have a Democrat in the White House and majorities in Congress. For now. What do we have to show for it…so far? Lilly Ledbetter and a painfully flawed HIR law. And a few other items of course.

As progressive activists, you gotta keep your head in the game, in addition to being informed. That takes time. And energy. And attention. (and I have some deficit in that last one.)

Docudharma, blogging the future … is one way to feed & nurture that momentum.

So… Hang in there, kids, and keep on truckin’…. eyes on the prize.

Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

And…. Nina…for the close…

    Eddie Murphy – RAW – What have you done for me lately??

    I know, I know, it’s a bit of a tenuous connection here, but what the hell… 😉

  2. I feel I have no direction home. I’m still fired up and ready to go but where are going? Even my attention span is on alert, that is one area where dkos does help. Local is hard as I hear a lot from my local party members about how inspiring Obama is and then my neighbors grumblings especially the teachers and union members about the Democrats, who they are losing patience with.

    So I feel I can offer nothing inside the party other then supporting local candidates, who are not yet caught in the machines gears.I can also yell loudly and fart in their general direction. So I guess I’m sitting in ya ya waiting for this to all shake out.

    I will take what I have gathered from coincidence these last five years and find as many places as possible to apply it. DD is a great place as I can still learn her and still be honest. I am reading Saul Alinsy’s rules for Radicals and backing off my attachment to fighting bots. My next reading project is Why I Write by Orwell that should be interesting. Change will happen so we do have that going for us, even if we don’t get ponies or total consciousness.

  3. And it will destroy the entire east coast and the gulf and raze the earth all the way to the Mississippi river.

    And I live in Colorado.

    We will inherit the earth.  Or at least, the eastern half of the U.S.A.

    Bwaaaaahahahahahahahaha.

    The bozos on dkos thrive on attention.  They are like childish miscreants.

    There are real problems to address and there is a whole world out there.

    I just have less and less desire to go there.  Oh, there’s peace, but now we are into the summer rerun season.  Heath care Wars II.  A couple days ago Eve had one, and then Deaniac and others had response diaries.  The same people saying the same things and the same flame wars.

    It’s really boring.

    I may be wrong, but I think Daily Kos is fading, maybe community blogging is also, under the weight of trollish tactics.

    Buhdy has written about them.

    I read interesting things here.  I read the Plum Line, Digby, a few other places.

    Life is too good to spend it is flame wars with Elise or Cedwyn or whomever.

  7. It will be held in Bayfront Park near downtown Duluth MN. Curious to see, guessing I’ll stay 15-20 minutes, although wouldn’t be surprised if I depart quicker.

    Anyway, I am thinking of a few talking points and question to ask the Partiers.

    Off the top of my head:

    ” I think we should privatize the Police Dept, can save a lot of money there, and also the sewer system maybe”.

    “Perhaps those of Hispanic heritage should have their votes only count as 3/5 a vote”.

    “Federal taxes should only be spent on the Armed Forces, everything else the private sector can handle”.

    Those are a few that come to mind.

    Any suggestions?

    I will be going to Bayfront Park later this summer. Check out the incomplete lineup, friday looks perty good.
