Live re: Afghan from Sen. Durbin’s porch

Note from the essayist:  Please forgive me if I’ve deviated too much from protocol, but I’m posting only the lead-in of this essay/diary here.  The complete diary is at dkos.  Buhdy, I’m not yet up to speed with your dazzling blog creation skills, though I’m getting better.  ; – )   Doing a complete cross-post is beyond me today, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

Bottom line:  this diary at dkos is how I go about Standing. The. F. Up.  and Yelling Louder!!!

Thanks, good people!

S-a-a-a-y WHAT?

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yep, it’s true.  Sen. Dick Durbin has an office in Springfield, Illinois, right in the Lincoln Home National Historic Site.  It’s a beautiful, peaceful little park, with historic Lincoln-era homes.  Durbin’s office is in the George W. Shutt House, and Mr. Shutt was a neighbor of the Lincolns. The house is owned by the National Park Service, and Sen. Durbin has rented office space here since he was a member of the House of Representatives.
I’m blogging away, right now, on the far right side of the porch.
And, it’s no secret he has an office here.  Take a look at his Senate home page. At the bottom of the page, you’ll see the address: 525 South 8th St, Springfield IL 62703.
Why here?
Well, here’s one reason which is totally enough, all by itself —– because I can.
Congress: Call? Write? March around the Capitol? Here’s MORE choices
IS THERE SOMETHING YOUR GOVERNMENT IS DOING THAT HAS YOU TOTALLY OUTRAGED?
Is it inertia about healthcare reform?  Funding for endless needless war?  Letting criminals go unprosecuted?  Torture?  Corporate welfare?
There’s nothing wrong with sending email, paper mail, and faxes to your Congress Critters.  Nothing wrong with calling and calling again.  IF YOU HAVEN’T DONE THESE THINGS, THEN DO THEM TODAY.
And after you’ve done these, are you getting the results you want?  Or are you getting boilerplate reply letters that don’t even address your questions and concerns, or, “Thank you for calling Senator Heavybotham’s office, and have a nice day”?
On Bill Moyers Journal tonight: Jeremy Scahill
On Bill Moyers Journal tonight, Jeremy Scahill, author of Blackwater, will be interviewed.
Scahill wants the United States to back up and examine its entire approach to foreign policy and, rather than analyze the number of troops to send to Afghanistan or replace the commander, ask whether the U.S. should have any troops there at all.
Questioning The Afghan Premises
This is my first essay here at Docudharma, and it’s a crosspost of a diary I did at DKos a few weeks ago.  I’m quite interested in furthering discussion on this topic, and though I won’t trash the other place, I’ll just say I feel confident that Dd folks are truly interested in constructive dialogue. ; – )
It seems that much of the American populace just doesn’t even question the premises for staying in Afghanistan and for ramping it up there.
Some say that our occupation of Afghanistan is “the good war”.  Dammitall, but I just don’t know what they mean, when they say this.  It’s a head scratcher. It seems as if a gazillion people heard the words “the good war” said somewhere, and then they assigned a few neurons to that, but haven’t checked back to see if the concept actually means something or if it is in working order.
Some say Obama has to keep us in Afghanistan until we get OBL.  ‘Course the search for OBL was abandoned under Unitary Executive Humpty Dumpty the First, and Obama hasn’t made getting OBL part of the plan. If getting OBL is supposed to be part of Bama’s plan, then would someone explain that to Bama, please?
Some say we have to stay there until we dismantle AQ.  But Gen. Petraeus seems to think that AQ has been pretty well run out of Afghanistan, no?
