A girlfriend from 1978! called from “out of the 28-year blue” and said “Let’s go!” What the heck, and d’oh, alright. It reminded me of being young and naive and sorta fun. There was a huge mofo disco ball and Donna rocked it. I refrained from busting out my entire repertoire of moves from ’78, and it was a thoroughly good time. Empirically, I can be or pretend to be a stuffed shirt — it was the best of pop, it was the worst of pop — but not in front of Donna Summer. The sound was good, her voice was outright impressive, and her musical energy was contagious.
