Becoming Chaz is coming to the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) on May 10 at 8pm.  Immediately following the show will be a special discussion hosted by Rosie O’Donnell including interviews with Chaz and his girlfriend, Jennifer Elia, directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato and assorted transfolk.

Becoming Chaz first aired at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

Here’s a review:

The last time many of us paid attention to Chaz Bono, he had recently transitioned from a life as a woman to that of a man, and the tabloids and comedians were having a field day. Viewers of Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey’s wildly engaging documentary “Becoming Chaz” might be surprised, then, to see the complicated and often touching story behind the late-night snark.

ENDA is getting some attention in business quarters.  If you can’t get through the subscriber wall using the above link, there is additional coverage at Minding the Workplace.

In Montana transfolk are taking action against the action being taken by Republican legislators.  Specifically the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund has issued a letter to the lawmakers pointing out the unconstitutional nature of their actions.  You could donate here.

TLDEF has also become involved in the hubbub currently occurring in New York City.  If you haven’t been aware, transfolk are suing the city over its policy regarding birth certificates.  Basically, the city is requiring surgery before a change will be made, along with a post-operative psych evaluation.

The city claims its requirements are necessary to ensure that people wouldn’t be changing the gender on their birth certificates for “nefarious purposes”.  Like what?  Using a restroom?

Lastly there is another “Truth” Academy being presented in Columbus, OH (actually Discover Christian Church in Dublin, OH) on April 1 and 2.  Sponsored by Americans for Truth about Homosexuality and Mission America, the “Academy” will teach attendees how to oppose the aggressive homosexual-bisexual-transsexual agenda and how to refute liberal claims that Christians are “Haters”.  Speakers will include such intellectual luminaries as David Kupelian of World Net Daily, Matt Barber and Rena Lindevaldsen of Liberty University, Greg Quinlan of PFOX, and Rob Gagnon of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

They’ll all be discussing our evil ways.

This is the second of dozens of Truth Academies that we hope to hold across the country. I recently went undercover at a huge homosexual grassroots conference attended by over 2,000 ‘LGBT’ activists — promoting the most radical sexual/gender agenda imaginable (including sadomasochism). ‘Gay’ militants are not slowing down in the Culture War, so neither should Christians and conservatives. If the homosexual activists win, religious freedom to defend normalcy will be destroyed.

–Peter LaBarbera, Americans for Truth about Homosexuality

Every Christian should be concerned about the trend toward defamation and discrimination at the hands of intolerant LGBT activists. From the defense of traditional marriage being labeled ‘hate,’ to the homosexual agenda infiltrating our schools, their goal is to transform our culture. If they are not stopped, the results will be devastating for daily life and religious liberty.

–Linda Harvey, Mission America

See you there.  Tomatoes, I hear, are a must.

…of Becoming Chaz at Sundance here and the review by the Hollywood Reporter is here.

Told with finesse, compassion and wit by filmmakers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, “Becoming Chaz” follows Chaz Bono from the point where he has decided to change his gender. It has been a lifelong and extremely difficult decision for Chaz who recalls straightforwardly on camera years of drug abuse and isolation, all related to his identity confusion and, of course, the added misfortune of growing up in the public eye.
