“…..that in spite of pressure from the left, the Dems would fuck this shit up.”

    “On purpose, apparently.”

That led to 40 years of Republican dominance.

You read about LBJ getting drummed out of his party, the disastrous conventions in the ’70s, Carter getting challenged by Kennedy. Clinton getting eviscerated by supposed allies until they rallied to his side when it was too late. Votes for Nader.

At least conservatives know that winning is a long game. At least conservatives know that you don’t worry about getting a half-measure, because that half-measure is a step towards getting a full-measure.

Unless liberals like Markos don’t want to win. After all, winning means taking accountability. It’s a lot easier to sit on the sidelines and decry the sinking fortunes of the world when you don’t have a part of it.

Obama laid down a challenge last year: will progressives work to win a long game. Apparently, the progressive leadership is failing to rise to the challenge and is retreating to the easy position of reflexive opposition to everything and everyone.

  3. when a person like me is considered “the far far left”.

I have forgotten where I put my poster of Che Guevera and the AK-47 has rusted out.

I think when Obama gets pressure from me he puts his hand over the phone and whispers “and who the hell is this b*tch?!” to Rahm Emanuel.

Of course, I get visits from the Secret Service when I always get ahold of Obama’s red cell phone number, no matter how many times they change it.

  4. or the other.

  5. The president openly dismisses the left…

    Rahm openly insults us…

    The partly loyalists do both..

Obama has shown he can be tough alright…

Tough on the progressive movement and no one else.

I wonder if now finally comes the break for me..

The day that I knew would always come

When I replace that D on my registration card with an S.

Thing is, I’ve always been a socialist in spirit.

  6. lol, this is funny.

  7. There are voters and there are donors.

Adequate pressure from donors comes in the familiar form of bribes campaign contributions.

Adequate pressure from voters is entirely different. They have YEARS to help voters forget how much it hurt to take it deep and wide. Besides, what are you going to do, vote Republican?

The health insurance industry found it much more cost effective to just buy themselves a few Congresscritters, rather than lose a few million healthy customers. A million here, a million there, and all the right players line up in democratic opposition to a scheme to reduce insurance company profit public option.

I think we need more than “adequate” pressure. We need to be able to spread money around like insurance companies.

Maybe we can have a big ass bake sale and buy ourselves a few Senators. How much does a Senator cost anyway?

  8. I hate to gloat at the moment.  But I f*cking told you so and I told everybody else who would listen so.  There I said it.  You gotta be crazy to think that electoral politics wouldn’t throw me and you under the first oncoming bus.  I’m vindicated, but no less pissed.

  9. I’m more concerned about the blizzard here in . . . ummmm . . . “Alaska” . . . because it has our whole state shut down.  We’ve had 15 inches of snow and the wind is blowin’ up to 50 MPH.  It ain’t even fit to be out on a snow machine!

God is sure punishin’ those tree-huggers who believe in global warming.  But he’s punishin’ us patriots also, which is makin’ my brain hurt.

  10. At 45 years old and being a pessimistic type who thinks of himself as being jaded as all hell its still depresses me.  I cant say I’m shocked as much as disappointed and not just at them I’m pissed at my own gullibility.

Im done I’m registering republican so I can vote for the absolute worst candidate in the primaries.  Then Im gonna vote for the communist or green or whomever.
