I was only a few miles away, a student at Fordham in the Bronx. The whole campus was lit up as the news spread. There was a candlelight vigil on the lawn.
It had snowed, but mostly there was ice everywhere. The night was absolutely bonecrushingly ice cold. I don’t even think anything I experienced in Germany ever came close.
