You pay for protective service. If you’re all paid up, the private fire company will show up and do their best to save your house. If you decided to forego paying for what is a common municipal service all around this country then the private fire department will show up and watch your house burn to the ground. You can throw wads of benjamins at them and they will just watch.

Sometimes a community commons of services is needed. The Republicans are at the point of outsourcing war to private firms. Check the total Afghan headcount including mercenaries. Last I saw the pay-to-kill crowd was as big as the uniformed crowd.

That house is the health care system. We live in it. We should have a public fire department but the Republicans just won’t allow that to happen.

I’m a peaceful man but I’m at the end of my chain. I’d feel a lot better if that shot above was an insurance executive’s house, or a pharma executive’s house, and especially a Wall St executive’s house. Except in the latter case, that would be the gate house.

Words accomplish nothing. Actions do. I’m not saying to burn them out but some tar and feathers and thousands of rails might get some attention.

    I’ve had it.

  2. and perhaps buy a couple more.

$50 seems trivial compared to that, doesn’t it?

    PS

You should buy some fire extinguishers if you haven’t. No joke.

    I have:

Large upstairs, my bedroom. Conventional wisdom said “mount in bathroom”. I had trouble visualizing myself heading thru flames in the hall to get it. So it’s in my bedroom.

Large under kitchen sink, close but far enough from stove to access if stove on fire, not viewable by small children.

Small in garage. That should be upgraded to large, as it would be the one of choice for outdoors emergencies.

    Small in trunk of car.

    Yep, 4 for a 4-bedroom house/car.

And my smoke alarms are a special set. If there’s smoke/fire downstairs, that one will ring itself plus the upstairs alarm. Vice versa.

    Are you prepared?
