Change I Can Believe In

During the Bush Reign of Terror The Left was about as powerful as a marshmallow. Not because it didn’t try…it was just that Bush absolutely positively knew he could ignore The Left with impunity. In fact he had to, to please his base. All he needed to do was get the same traitorous Dems that have been exposed in the Health Care fight on his side and he could insult and ignore everyone else Left of them.

Lobbying didn’t work, protests didn’t work and citizen activism didn’t work. The Left, for all it’s good intentions was at best a brake on the power of Bushco.

As I said before the election, the biggest change that Obama becoming President would bring about was what The left…what we…would be allowed to do now. Among all the small proofs that I have been watching for the growing influence of The Left, here is a pretty big one.

They now have to hide stuff from us and learn to lie better!

HT to Jed Lewison

The Democratic aide said staffers have tried to keep Carper’s alternative quiet due to concerns that publicity could draw attacks from liberal activists, which could complicate efforts to line up support from the full Democratic caucus.

They are starting to fear The Left again.

You may now do a little tiny preliminary dance in the streets! The balance is shifting and the pendulum is swinging. And that is change that we can all believe in.

  2. Vote for a weak public option in Pelosi’s health care bill, a public option which will be designed by the health insurance companies themselves and will end up as a patchwork of local agencies.

When the political classes of the so-called Left are allowed to vote against such a thing as insufficient to public needs, then I will believe.

  3. They are starting to fear The Left again.

More like: ‘recognize that the Left is a potential hurdle that needs to be massaged before we can steamroll them’.

Only when the Left proves it is willing to actually do something significant to affect the corporatist agenda, (like killing this crummy Health Insurance bailout) will we be able to claim any legitimate justification for being feared.

  4. you’re gonna need it.

During the Bush Obama Reign of Terror Hopiness The Left was about as powerful as a marshmallow. Not because it didn’t try…it was just that Bush Obama/&TheCorporates absolutely positively knew he could ignore The Left with impunity. In fact he had to, to please his base (the pragmatic realistic centrists). All he needed to do was get the same traitorous Dems that have been exposed in the Health Care fight on his side and he could insult and ignore everyone else Left of them. (Or just let Rahm do that part.)

Love ya, buhdy…. signed, Debby Downer. lol

  5. The whole friggin planet was against it. The MIC

just ignored us until the death toll just got too unbearable. And back then we didn’t have these motherfucking chickenhawks spewing crap on TV and Radio.

And the fact that we finally got a civil rights bill after

150 years was great, but a hell of a lot of people got killed and battered in years of demonstrations and riots. As soon as MLK started talking about Vietnam and Economic equality, you know what happened.

Talk about transparency, the Democratic Party is holding itself up to the light of day. And what do we see behind that facade? Sort of like a science fiction movie from the 50’s when the heroes enter the cave and see deformed slime worms burrowing in and out of huge globs of a mushroom like vegetable. We forget, we needed a courageous supreme court also to fight for equality. Even today, many people look at Brown v. Board as a decision (like Roe) that was just pulled out of a donkey’s ass, not based on any text or precedent. But corporate personhood, oh no, that’s a different story (even though it was invented out of thin air).  I’m truly disgusted today!

  7. I forget ev’ry cloud I’ve ever seen,

So they called me a cockeyed optimist

    Immature and incurably green.

I have heard people rant and rave and bellow

That we’re done and we might as well be dead,

But I’m only a cockeyed optimist

And I can’t get it into my head.

    I hear the human race

    Is fallin’ on its face

And hasn’t very far to go,

    But ev’ry whippoorwill

    Is sellin’ me a bill,

And tellin’ me it just ain’t so.

I could say life is just a bowl of Jello

And appear more intelligent and smart,

But I’m stuck like a dope

    With a thing called hope,

And I can’t get it out of my heart!

    Not this heart…

Nellie Forbush was an incredibly flawed character.

    You…

    Should get out more.

  8. has to do with it being “Open Enrollment” time for my husband’s job’s health insurance Plan. We have a deadline of Nov 18 to complete it. And I HATE doing this kind of thing. AND!!!! we can’t afford to select the package that would provide Dependent Coverage for me and our daughter. So I double hate it.

And this is the Status Quo that they are about to make worse with a mandate that we buy that Option that we know we cant afford. Then still have to pay the co-pays and deductible, and pray like hell we dont get sick with anything they would then deny anyway.

And we just obtained a special (separate deal) Supplemental to cover all 3 of us for Accidental and Catastrophic stuff, there goes $200/month.

And with all of that, this is nothing…. compared with other people’s situations. We’re basically healthy for gods sake.

    Gawd I hate this.

for not getting tired of doing so.

Posting, I mean. And doing so with such consistent upbeat enthusiasm (I almost typed “Upbeast” but caught myself in time).

I do kind of like “Upbeast,” though. It makes me think of the possibility of originating new archetypes, though I guess that’s perhaps not an option, at least not for a few more thousand years.

Anyway, I keep taking little breaks and going nuts here and there, but so far so good. I hope you and ek and onthebus and nightprowlkitty and robyn and everybody else who works here like the homeless thing I posted; I’m still doing this stuff, albeit rather disjointedly at times. I have lots of ideas about how/what to do but I freak easily. There ya go.

I’m also still posting on DK and on WWL and thinking more and more about inventing different things for different blogs, but with some of the same material, sort of moving along sideways as I go, crablike.

    And…that’s good!

    Thank you for being you.
