The Nobel Clue Stick

WhhhaaaaaP!

Nothing better to help the inheritor of Imperial American War Machine that is engaged in two foreign wars and is assiduously ignoring years of torturing people to death remember his responsibilities to Peace and to the world than hitting him with a big old Clue Stick with a shiny Gold Medal tied to its end.

Could this affect Obama’s current decision on how many Brown People to kill in Afghanistan? On when to finally withdraw the War Machine from Iraq?

We surely hope so, right? Just a little nudge, nudge there from the ‘descendants’ of the guy who invented dynamite?

And it looks like Obama is accepting it in that spirit, saying he intends to use the award as a “Call to action.”

So I applaud the Nobel Committee for this blatantly proleptic choice.Instead of honoring someone for work the have already done in the past….they are striking a blow for Peace in the future.

It is in my opinion a statement to a rather parochial nation that views itself as Exceptional that they have…along with an army, navy and air force engaged in two wars, is assassinating women and children (and alleged terrorists) by remote control, as the largest arsenal of nukes in the world, simply horrific record on war and torture and Human Rights, is the worlds leading arms dealer, AND has a contingent of the most belligerent war mongering fundamentalist religious zealots in a reduced but still WAY too powerful role in it’s government….

A responsibility.

America CAN be the most powerful force for peace in the world.

Or it can be…as it has been for the past eight years, the Worlds Biggest War Criminals. Waging illegal Wars of Aggression as they did in Iraq, deciding that it has the power to determine the fate of the people Afghanistan while propping up and illegal government and turning a blind eye to narco-corruption, illegally detaining people ..STILL… in Bagram and Gitmo, and absolutely refusing to comprehensively investigate it own War Crimes.

Yes, hitting the man who is on the verge of deciding just how much America is going to continue to be a worldwide Imperial Bully backed by the worlds biggest nuclear arsenal…while studiously ignoring its VERY fresh War Crimes and Human Rights violations with a Big Ole Clue Stick is a damn good idea, actually.

Even without the crazed and delusional Neo-cons and the Religious Crusaders 0f the Christian Right actually in charge anymore, it cannot be denied (except by Americans) that without a doubt and far and away….

America is THE Biggest threat to World Peace in the 21st Century.

We proved that in Iraq. And when it comes to war, excuses like “well that was Bush” just don’t cut it. The other sven billion people in the world have no say in our internal politics, on whether we elect a sociopathic, religious crusading war monger or not. They just have to pay the price….while living everyday with the horrifying fact that the same nation the DID elect George Bush can effectively wipe out all human life on earth with the push of a nuclear button. They, for some reason, don’t buy our excuses.

And now…as Obama is in the process of facing the seductive power of America’s military power and it starts to try to wrap the temptations of its almost god-like powers around his good intentions. He is now the Most Powerful Man On Earth.

He, like every other President….now has the theoretical power to blow up the planet.

As well as more power than any other person on earth to determine whether this will be a peaceful harmonious planet, or (especially as the battle for dwindling resources like oil and water play out) a war torn hell hole of a planet.

Obama appears to be a good, thoughtful man. History is full of good thoughtful men …that have been seduced by power and war.

So yeah, giving him a nice shiny medal to remind him of all of that…with the bonus of him admirably receiving it as a call to action on behalf of Peace is a VERY good idea, come to think of it!

  3. the Nobel Hope for Future Peace, Please Prize will prevent the all but inevitable “surge” in Afghanistan… and maybe, just maybe it may help to remove the apparently insurmountable obstacles to a complete withdrawal from Iraq… and maybe, just maybe this prize will help to dampen the drumbeats of the war machine now directed at Iran…

maybe, just maybe Obama will redeem your cluepon, buhdy … there’s always hope, right?

  4. Never ever was truth stranger than fiction than today and in these times — almost like a “living twilight zone,” or it just plain is.  Do you think the peoples of the world will really, really be hoodwinked by the absurdity of this Nobel Peace Prize?

On the other side of the coin, But, could this possibly serve as an impetus (innuendously) for Obama to honor that award?

Can’t help but to wonder how this grabs the religious right-wingers and all the Repugs.  Reckon they’ll set up townhall meetings to slam/argue with Members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, in Oslo?

Here’s a little of what is being said as the reasons for this award to Obama.

Aagot Valle, a lawmaker for the Socialist Left party who joined the committee this year, said she hoped the selection would be viewed as “support and a commitment for Obama.”

“And I hope it will be an inspiration for all those that work with nuclear disarmament and disarmament,” she told The Associated Press in a rare interview. Members of the Nobel peace committee usually speak only through its chairman.

The peace prize was created partly to encourage ongoing peace efforts but Obama’s efforts are at far earlier stages than past winners’. The Nobel committee acknowledged that they may not bear fruit at all.

“He got the prize because he has been able to change the international climate,” Nobel Committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland said. “Some people say, and I understand it, isn’t it premature? Too early? Well, I’d say then that it could be too late to respond three years from now. It is now that we have the opportunity to respond – all of us.”

  5. What could top this?  King of the World?  I read somewhere that requires at least one year. I think the NWO is going to happen next January!

    Bwah hah hah.

    Who ever woulda fuckin’ thunk.

We’re obviously not in fuckin’ Kansas anymore, are we?

    Are we?

  6. That big ol’ gold medal’s going to end up a real millstone around Obama’s neck if he’s not careful.

As far as the committee’s motives go, the happy optimist in me would hope it awarded the prize try to help nudge Obama out of Iraqistan, but the evil cynic in me says the dollar is oversold and the Illuminati is looking for a good excuse to pump up the US currency.

Either way, the whole thing strikes me as retiring a guy’s jersey after only half a season, and not and especially good half season at that.

the Norwegian Nobel Committee consists of five members elected by the Norwegian Storting (the Norwegian parliament). In its first stage, several thousand people are asked to nominate candidates. These names are scrutinized and discussed by experts in their specific disciplines until only the winners remain. This slow and thorough process is arguably what gives the prize its importance. Despite this, there have been questionable awards and questionable omissions over the prize’s century-long history.

Forms, which amount to a personal and exclusive invitation, are sent to about three thousand selected individuals to invite them to submit nominations. For the peace prize, inquiries are sent to such people as governments of states, members of international courts, professors and rectors at university level, former Peace Prize laureates, current or former members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, among others. The Norwegian Nobel Committee then bases its assessment on nominations sent in before 3 February.

Obama was inaugurated exactly 2 weeks minus one day before the nomination submission deadline.

How many of those three thousand would still nominate him today, I wonder?

  7. I like it, alot!

  8. …to the great mantle of satiric mastery.

    Hurrah to our own buhdy!

  9. has given the prize before as an indicator of the path they want the recipient(s) to take.  Should they have given it to him?  I don’t know.  But it isn’t unprecedented

I think I understand this prize, fwiw. From a European point of view, there is relief and gratitude to the American people for voting Obama in. The last eight years were terrifying in the increasing lack of sanity coming out of the U.S. and were capped by a financial meltdown that has threatened the stability of Europe after several countries saw increases in their right wing parliamentary percentages.

I believe this award, in addition to being for Obama’s anti-nuclear work, which started before he became president and is a big deal in Europe, and for the diplomacy, which has shown significant progress in a short time, is actually for the Americans who voted Bushites out of office, a trend the Nobel Committee would like to see continue in 2010 and 2012.
