Café Discovery: Into the mind of the artist

( – promoted by buhdydharma )

I should have spent yesterday afternoon grading Java programs, or perhaps preparing some files to show my Tuesday night class how to better use the animation capabilities of Director 11.  But it was only Saturday and procrastination is what it is, so I decided to put that off until today.  So I created a graphic.  As I am wont to do, I saved often along the way, so I actually created a whole series of graphics.

Which one is best is in the eye of the beholder.

Today, in order to continue the procrastination process, I decided to provide a glimpse, perhaps, at how the artistic part of my brain functions.

I started with two graphics, created separately, which could…perhaps…stand on their own…and an idea, however bad of an idea it might be.

Tweak (front)
Tweak (back)

And then I layered them (the first part of the idea)…

…and fused them together (the rest of the idea…from here on it would be instinct), adding a color change…

Tweak 1

…and tiled that..and twisted the tiles.

Tweak 2

I could have tiled again…

Tweak 3A

A road not taken

…and twisted some more, also with color change…

Tweak 3B

A glimpse further down that road

…but I backed up to Tweak 2 and went this way…

Tweak 4

…and tiled that…

Tweak 5

…and thought about tiling that…

Tweak 6

Another road not taken

…but decided to put it in a globe instead…

Tweak 7

…and exploded the globe…

Tweak 8

…and tiled that, with a color change…

Tweak 9

…and tiled that, twisting the tiles.

Tweak 10

And I decided to stop, for now.

The normal process at this point is to add names.  But I’m fresh out.  Besides, there is no reason that what I see is what you would see.

So maybe you could tell me the names of these pieces.

Nobody has suggested any names so far, but the concept of “portals” has been raised.
