BENNETT: SANFORD NEEDS TO STOP ‘EMBARRASSING HIMSELF’

(CNN) – Mark Sanford is “embarrassing himself” and needs to resign as governor of South Carolina, conservative talk radio host and CNN contributor Bill Bennett said Thursday on CNN’s American Morning.

Bennett, the latest high profile conservative to call for Sanford’s ouster, said it’s time for the onetime Republican rising star to ditch politics and focus solely on getting his life back in order.

“I know Mark Sanford. I know him quite well,” Bennett said. “He needs to get his life back in order, his marriage back in order. He is embarrassing himself.””

Sanford needs to “stop embarrassing himself.” Really? Really? Is THAT what he needs to do, Bill Bennett?

I guess when you’re talking about embarrassment, it’s probably always better to stick with the experts. I mean, who better to give moralizing lectures on who’s an embarrassment and who isn’t, than a guy who LITERALLY wrote a book called: “The Book of Virtues” at roughly the same time period that he was losing MILLIONS OF DOLLARS gambling? And this has got to be money shot:

“We have other people,” he said. “We have other people who are not only fiscally interesting and sound but also can keep their lives together.”

People who can “keep their lives together” eh? People who can keep their lives together? Would part of that whole “keeping your life together” process include shitting out millions of dollars at the craps table?

Bill Bennett . . . shut the fuck up. It ain’t up to YOU to decide who’s “got their life together” and who hasn’t, you moralizing, self-righteous hypocrite.

  1. Here’s a tall, cool glass of STFU!

  2. …”Family Values”  Gingrich, (who served his ill-with-cancer first wife with divorce papers while she was hospitalized);  Larry “It is unacceptable to risk the lives of American soldiers…merely to accommodate the sexual lifestyles of certain individuals” Craig;  Karl “King of Hypocrites” Rove;  David My adultery doesn’t require my resignation, but Clinton’s did” Vitter–not to mention the repulsively hypocritical Mark “The Child Protector Advocate while simultaneously being a Pedophile himself” Foley— etc, etc, etc.

Now we have another Vitter type:  Mark “Clinton should resign for having an affair and lying about it, But I don’t have to” Sanford.

It’s the hypocrisynot the affair–that’s the real outrage.  It’s the point that should be at the center of the Sanford coverage, IMHO.  Again, IMHO, real journalists would be holding Sanford’s feet to the fire at each interview about why he called for Clinton’s resignation but now feels that he deserves to stay.  They should insist that Sanford explain why he believes that he and other republicans should be excused for their sexual and other ethical violations, while these very same offenders insist on the resignations of their political opponents in the other party resign for similar offenses. Why are these hypocrites allowed to claim that their “repentance” is sufficient payment for their offenses, while they require that Democrats repent AND resign?  For me, that’s the real point of the whole fiasco that needs to be hammered home.
