Graham, Lieberman Will Shut Down Senate over Photos

The dynamic duo is so oppose to transparency, and so ready to set extremely dangerous precedent of cutting the courts out of secrecy decision by legislative fiat, that they say the will shut down the Senate [sub. required] to see that the torture photos remain secret.

 

Sen. Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn.) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) threatened to hold up any and all legislation in the Senate until Congress passes its legislation to prohibit the release of photos showing detainee abuse in Iraq and Afghanistan.

   “We’re not going to do any more business in the Senate,” Graham said. “Nothing’s going forward until we get this right.”

We MUST support these brave Patriots!

The ACLU says that the photos show torture, in fact that they show torture that exceeds even the techniques that were approved in the Yoo-Bybee-Bradbury Memos. Meaning of course that even if the Memos did succeed in giving the legal cover that Cheney sought when he pressured Yoo-Bybee-Bradbury into tailoring them to the already extant Organized Program of Torture built and run by the Bush Administration…..Laws were still broken.

Fortunately, we have two Senators, Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman who are so full of…….integrity, that they are willing to take the same principled stand that then House Speaker, serial adulterer and Family Values Republican Newt Gingrich so successfully took….SHUTTING IT DOWN!!!

If the provision is eliminated, Lieberman and Graham said they would vote against the supplemental and any attempts to bring debate on the measure to a close. Graham predicted that most, if not all, of the 40 Senate Republicans would do the same, and Lieberman said he would be reaching out to Democrats on the issue as well. That could be enough to filibuster the supplemental measure on the Senate floor, because 60 votes are needed to end debate on a bill.

Shut down the government? Shut down War Funding?

    Force them, call their bluff. Because this IS a bluff, a gamble hedging clique and bravado and managed news cycles.

    What these coverup greasemen absolutely DO.NOT.WANT is for the outrage to spread beyond the news junkies and into the general population. Hence the rush and bluster.

  7. Make sure they cancel all benefits they voted for themselves also.

    Take a break.

    Shut it all down.

    Then turn it on one switch at a time.

    Check all circuits to make sure everything is legal & the will of the people.

    Go to the next circuit & check that one thoroughly also.

    Clean the mess up one switch at a time.

    I`ll wait patiently, & do my part. But I shall not be party to switching lights off to benefit those who threw sand in our eyes while they were demanding we accept that it`s all sunny out.

    It`s not/was not & will not be, till everything is shut down & started up properly, cutting out the faulty circuits of “change”

    Yes, it used to be “Death before DIShonor”, but these two gentlemen (and I use that term all too loosely) would rather shut the government down completely, than allow the truth of our actions to see the disinfecting light of day.

    Three years without review, are they expecting another neo-con in power next term?

    While I honestly believe showing pictures of what we KNOW to be true, the atrocities we KNOW happened in our name will viralize anti-american sentiment across the globe; I cannot help but believe that showing these would also necessitate the imprisonment of those responsible, hence clearing our name.

    That is what the fight is about really. It is not the rape of children, the torture, the humiliation, the abject degradation of fellow human beings for what amounts to nothing but feeding sadistic pleasure and the power trip of the previous administration that this is about.

    Its not about fear of global retribution either.

    What this is about is protecting the men who did it, and the complicity of myriad government officials who turned a blind eye to it, from the White House, to the Pentagon, to the grunts at ground level.

    I would love to test our integrity, our mettle, and say “Shut it Down, Motherfuckers” but I have little faith these days. Too many blue-dogs lie with them in their flea-infested beds.

    I DEEPLY hold that this is the most important decision of our time.

    For, as the United States crumbles financially, we will find ourselves needing the aid and good will of other Nations, a will that would be more readily fostered by the holding ACCOUNTABLE of those who tarnished our name, the HONOR restored in being a Nation that sought to PROVE “never again” by employing TRUTH and TRANSPARENCY and the PUNISHMENT of those who ordered it.

    The United States seems to be the embodiment of the old adage, “We will do the right thing, only after exhausting every other option.” (paraphrasing Churchill)

    This will not end the way I would hope.

    Fuck Lieberman and Graham, for their role in this.

    May our leaders grow a spine, but I will not be holding my breath.

    Whatever it was, I wish he and Lindsay would get a forking room…. May I suggest Palau? I hear they have nice accommodations, and lots of sun. Ooops! I forgot, you jaded politicians can’t stand the sun…. How about Palin’s Alaska then? I’d like to stand both of them next to a snarling polar bear (if there’s any left), and then throw them each a pound bacon (bears just love bacon, … I know this from personal experience)

    On other matters…. nice to be back. Been under-the-weather from chemo (and avoiding being online, to keep stress levels low), but doing much better now, and hope to post much more.
