MiniMeta: How Blogs Work

( – promoted by buhdydharma )

A lot of folks have happily and most welcomededily  (coin, ChaChing!) showed up here seeking an alternative blog… to another very popular blog. That blog is popular and attractive, despite any flaws it may have, for one main reason.

Action!!!

That blog puts out.

It puts out lots of stuff to do, to participate in, to be stimulated by. Whether you find that stimulus to be a negative (I can’t believe that shit!) or a positive (Wow, that is some good shit!) stimulus….it cannot be denied that it is stimulative.

And it is stimulative for a very simple reason. Lot’s of people go there. They go there to get stimulus, and in the process of participating in the stimulation, provide stimulus for others. Who are then stimulated to participate, which provides more and greater….well you get the picture.

So what is the key? Participation. We all like to be stimulated and there is nothing at all wrong with that. But we tend to overlook the fact that WE are the stimulus we are looking for.

To the point.

The more YOU participate here, the more others will be stimulated….and thus participate here….and thus stimulate you. The less YOU participate, the less stimulating Docudharma will be to others, and so they will participate less.

It is one of those algorithm thingees or whatever you call it.

There is only one way to create a stimulating alternative to that other site, if that is what you want. By making this (or some other) site more stimulating….by participating in it.

In closing, I shall quote the great Sage Smokey, of the Bear Tribe…..

when I go to that “other” blog, I get overstimulated and my head sometimes comes close to exploding…

So I come here for peace and sanity and intelligent company. I do it all for me, you see. 😉

all others who created this place in 2007.

  5. but thanks again Buhdy.  This place is just so refreshing and a much needed stress reliever in our current extremely enviornment.

  6. participating stimulating, yet?

  7. When a blog gets to be an echo-chamber where only those who tow-the-line are accepted, no matter how successful, they become all that is bad.

  8. Im sure I could be more stimulating. heh.

Long day. Went to some friend’s condo with swimming pool for the kids, burgers on the grill … we just socialized but I was not recreated.  Or stimulated. It was mildly frustrating. {sigh} Couldnt’ wait to get home and check in here.

    Grateful for the zone here.

Now that I am comfortably ensconced here at DD, and have kept my promise never to again visit that “other place”, I am feeling slightly guilty that I haven’t been posting more.

I tend to work in spurts. Sometimes I’ll write down diary ideas, do research, find quotes, etc., for two or three potential story ideas at once. Sometimes, the story “moves” before I publish, and is no longer relavant, and sometimes, I just hesitate too long, usually because I am being overly critical.

Nonetheless, my output is relegated, unfortunately, to my health. As many know, I’ve been fighting cancer and other medical problems for some time. Sometimes I feel great, sometimes ….I don’t. Regardless, my not publishing a slew of diaries, is not related to my affection for DD and the members here, which grows every day.

In the end, quality, not quantity, is the most important aspect of good writing. I will always endeavor to deliver quality first, and failing that, the best I can do at the time.

  10. than Budydharma had in mind, but I can’t resist.

Most of you have probably seen Max Blumenthal’s interview with porn star Stormy Daniels about a potential primary run against David Vitter-R, Louisiana.  While discussing potential campaign slogans, she seemed quite receptive to Blumenthal’s suggestion, “You have the best stimulus package.”

No doubt, if she were to gain traction in the primary race, this could become a very interesting race. One could only hope.
