An Open Letter to TocqueDeville

This is going to be short as there is not much to say about it, but the Dog thinks it needs to be said. Integrity is something the Dog strives for, but does not always achieve as well as he would like. It is in this spirit that he would like to offer the text of an e-mail that was sent this afternoon.

Hi Tocued,

I post as Something The Dog Said and I think I owe you a little walk back of some of the things I have said in the whole banning brouhaha. I will do this in public on DocuDharma, since I believe integrity is a public as well as a private thing, but I wanted to do it person to person first.

After reading your post via Buhdydharma today I think you did get the raw end of this deal. While I have not read most of your stuff (we tend to have differing point of view so rather than fight I just write what I think) but going over you banned diary and your response it seems pretty clear this was unfair. I supported Kos’s right to ban anyone he likes and still do, but the reasons should be better than what he provided.

In any case I am sorry my comments painted you and your words unfairly. I committed the biggest sin of internet commentary, commenting without knowing the whole story. Now that I do, I think I would have phrased my responsese differently.

I know you don’t know me from Adam, but I thought I should write you and let you know. Here is hoping we can butt-heads, polititly but firmly at DD.

Cheers,

Bill – AKA Something The Dog Said

The Dog is not doing this from a desire to beat himself up, but rather to make the point that when we  do something less than our own standards demand it is important to own it and make amends.

This kind of goes to Buhdy’s point about a true community blog as well as something the Dog would like to see in general. One of the things which drives folks away from the community blogs is the constant fire-fight tone that many (the Dog included, at least in the past) use to make their points more forceful. This has the unfortunate effect of preventing anyone from admitting less than perfection and consequently we can not grow and evolve.

The time the Dog has spent on the various blogs he posts at have been and enormous eduction and have forced, through being challenged by the other posters a significant evolution of his point of view on many issues. This is experience the Dog would wish for all of us.

That’s it, nothing earthshaking, just a little integrity based housekeeping.

The floor is yours.

  1. who you disagree with are the ones you end up learning the most from. My political growth has been formed more by those who bother to shake my often delusional conceits and knee jerk reactions to style and process. Your a natural Dog run!!!

  2. Because after arguing that asking questions is good, his GBCW singled out one group that shouldn’t ask questions.
