Obama’s Speech: Shorter

Enough of this shit. We are now a Progressive nation and there is nothing you assholes can do to stop it.

.

.

RIP Republicans as an effective political force. He sold the Progressive agenda so well and so authentically and with such moral force, it seems impossible to meaningfully oppose him.

He spanked them.

Are you kidding me?  Honestly, you can’t be this credulous.

  4. of David Gergen after the speech.

This was the most ambitious speech by a president in this chamber in decades. The first half of the speech he was FDR fighting for the New Deal. The second half he was LBJ fighting for the Great Society. We’ve never seen those two presidents together in one speech. Most presidents would be content to solve the economic crisis and call it a win. This one is going for national health care, this year!

  5. Obama isn’t just progressive…he’s cool. Tomorrow at the White House:

President Barack Obama will give the Second Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song to Stevie Wonder on Feb. 25 at a special concert in the East Room of the White House in celebration of African American History Month. The program, to be taped by WETA Washington, D.C., as part of the In Performance at the White House series, will air on PBS stations nationwide on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at 8 p.m. ET (check local listings) as “Stevie Wonder In Performance at the White House: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize.”

The concert will feature a tribute by top performers singing the songs that propelled Wonder to the ranks of international stardom. The full line-up of performers will be announced soon.

Other performers will include: Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Martina McBride, Esperanza Spalding, Will.i.am, and the gospel duo Mary Mary,

  7. There is something very good going on, in addition to Obama’s positiveness.

I think now is as good as anytime to bring this to your attention — at least, I think so.

Statement on Prosecution of Former High Officials

We urge Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint a non-partisan independent Special Counsel to immediately commence a prosecutorial investigation into the most serious alleged crimes of former President George W. Bush, former Vice President Richard B. Cheney, the attorneys formerly employed by the Department of Justice whose memos sought to justify torture, and other former top officials of the Bush Administration.

Our laws, and treaties that under Article VI of our Constitution are the supreme law of the land, require the prosecution of crimes that strong evidence suggests these individuals have committed. Both the former president and the former vice president have confessed to authorizing a torture procedure that is illegal under our law and treaty obligations. The former president has confessed to violating the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

We see no need for these prosecutions to be extraordinarily lengthy or costly, and no need to wait for the recommendations of a panel or “truth” commission when substantial evidence of the crimes is already in the public domain. We believe the most effective investigation can be conducted by a prosecutor, and we believe such an investigation should begin immediately.

THIS is, in addition to the people’s Petition to Eric Holder to appoint a Special Prosecutor, etc.  The whole movement is growing all over the place.

  8. I was not a strong Obama fan early on.  When it came down to Obama v. Clinton, I came to prefer Obama primarily because of the type of campaign Clinton ran and the type of people she hired to run it.  Once Obama clinched the nomination, I was happy to support him, but I still didn’t feel very strongly about him.

Watching President Obama now, I find it hard not to weep.  An African American man is our president.  I voted for Jesse Jackson in the primaries back in 1984, but I never thought it would happen.  That in and of itself is SO GOOD.  An articulate man is our president.  After 8 years of uh uh uh, I find it comforting that an intelligent, well-spoken, thoughtful individual is the chief executive.  A reasonably progressive man is our president.  President Obama does not tiptoe around big agenda items proudly, unapologetically.  I’m pleasantly surprised with his effort to put forward some bold ideas, and I am hopeful he’ll make the effort to follow through with them.

I’ve become an emotional blob watching and listening when President Obama speaks.  I am still loaded with worry and doubt about the future, but I reckon President Obama is a pretty darned excellent fellow to take the lead facing the storm.  Here’s hoping we can all pull together and overcome.

The Republicans are still clinging to it like a bloated carcass as the flood of reality washes it downstream. They refuse to let go of it. It is dead. It is rotting from the inside out.

It is an ideology that is as fatally flawed as Soviet Communism. It does not work. End.of.sentence. It’s over.

An unregulated market has had twenty-eight years to prove itself and it has failed beyond comprehension. It failed at the beginning of the last century and at the end of it into this one.

Gordon Gecko was wrong. Greed is not good. Greed is evil. Colossal greed is fatal. It is pulling the entire world economy down on all of our heads for the benefit of a miniscule number of people. It cannot stand. It is failing before our eyes.

Only those in deep denial try to support it – neocons, Republicans, the propagandists of cable, radio and pulp news.

We need a new way out. We need a new beginning – a fundamental break from the failed policies of individual greed. We are either a nation or a collection of individuals out for themselves.

We are all in this together. The dead-enders need to be silenced. There is no time to wait. We have only one direction in which to move and that is forward. We need to move together.

Support those who are moving us forward. Take the time to send a thank you. Let them know you have their backs. And for those who stand in the way, let them know that they are marked. November of 2010 is not that far away. There is no such thing as getting too early a start.

We are the Hammer. The Anvil is Truth. Nothing can stand in our way.

  9. I’ve seen so far this morning on Obama’s speech…from Bill Kristol?????

This was not the speech of a man who thinks America needs to be reminded about the dangers out there in the world, because Americans might have to be summoned to deal with them. This was not the speech of a man who thinks of himself as a war president.

    emphasis mine

    Halleluia!!!!!!!!!!!
