Depose A Dharmanian! Is Obama Wrong?

Docudharma is a small community of very smart, stunningly attractive people. We may not have all the answers, but we certainly are witty and crafty enough to reply in an amusing fashion! So if you have a question, whether snarky, simple, political or philosophical, be it meta, meaty, maddening or impossible to answer,….what the hell? Post it here and see what happens! You have nothing to lose but your underwear! Heck, there is a chance it might even get answered, possibly even correctly!

Any questions?

What?

Still?

PLEASE REMEMBER, THIS IS A  COOPERATIVE EFFORT!!! MAKE SURE YOU TRY TO ANSWER A FEW QUESTIONS WHILE YOU ARE HERE!!!

BTW 42 is NOT the meaning of life, my favorite color is blue, no,  green (I’m still here!), and tying fruit of any kind to swallows is indicative of a very peculiar and rare psychosexual disease….seek help! While speculating on the airspeed of UNLADEN swallows is a far milder form….I still urge you to examine your soul!  For those who have no idea what I am talking about I urge YOU to …Ask A Kossak!

This is where I usually do a little intro to the night’s questions, so here it is!

Barack Obama ran on a platform of change…and won. Which leads us to….

Tonight’s First Question: Have you felt a change?

Tonight’s Second Question: In your personal view, what has been the biggest political change?

Tonight’s Third Question: In your personal view, what has been the biggest “legal”  change?

Tonight’s Fourth Question: In your personal view, what has been the biggest societal or cultural change?

Tonight’s Fifth Question: What has been the biggest change you have noticed in your own life?

Tonight’s Fourth Question: What change are you still waiting for?

Tonight’s Random Answer: Rush Limbaugh’s diapers

Tonight’s Silly Question (For example): Can you spare any?

  2. Tonight’s First Question: Is Obama right in how to deal with critics and those who disagree with us?

I think what Obama does is right for Obama.  I like his style.  It has integrity and is consistent with his character.

Tonight’s Second Question: Should we emulate his style of dealing with critics and those who disagree with us?

I think we can incorporate what works in Obama’s style if it is in harmony with our own principles.  I think that we play different roles — we are individual citizens and have a different kind of power and responsibility.  And I think we have many role models to choose from.

Tonight’s Third Question: Or keep approaching critics and those who disagree with us in the traditional Dkos manner, developed in response to Bush?

Sometimes.  I think when the blogs confronted Sarah Palin, for example, when Obama couldn’t, was effective.  I think it can be a good tool to use when the situation calls for it, but it shouldn’t be an entire strategy in and of itself.  I think we have many more ways now to refute critics.  Valtin’s work comes to mind.  We have more information now and that also should be factored in.

Tonight’s Fourth Question: Are WE strong enough to change, too?

    I guess we’ll find out!

Tonight’s Random Answer (For example): Go fuck yourself.

    Heh.

Tonight’s Silly Question (For example): How can I help?

    Courage!

  3. How about something like this for next Tuesday’s address to Congress:

“The least important aspect of our efforts to right our economic ship of state–the LEAST important–is that the voters may decide that I might not be standing here in front of you four years from now.   But the most important FACT of what we do turns on the notion of “too big to fail.”

“Many companies, banks, even entire industries are said to be too big to fail.  Yet, what I do know is that The United States of America–this mighty, good and decent, great country–is too big to fail.

“Failure is not an option–not on my watch.”

    Just a thought.

  4. at #1: Is Obama wrong in how to deal with critics and those who disagree with us?

I don’t know that I’ve totally gotten the picture of how he deals with critics yet, but so far…color me impressed. I like the frame from the first video – show me what works. Unfortunately, that message got mixed up with the frame of bi-partisanship, which was a mistake. But if you think about it, its the perfect question. If a Republican can come up with a good idea…go for it. What we all know (and Obama does too) is that its been a long time since a Republican in DC came up with a good idea. They’ve demonstrated for the last 8 years that they don’t have a clue about how to make much of anything work. And if by some stretch of the imagination they were able to do that – we could certainly embrace it. My problem with Republicans isn’t that they’re Republicans. Its that they have bad ideas.

That’s but one of the ways Obama deals with his critics though. The shoulder brush was perhaps my favorite moment of the whole 08 campaign season…brilliant.

And Sean Quinn describes the “smackdown” variety – which is a whole other approach.

  5. Is Obama wrong in how to deal with critics and those who disagree with us?

    From my anti-globalist worldview.

The “left” mostly ignores their critics, themselves being on higher intellectual ground.

Should we emulate his style of dealing with critics and those who disagree with us?

I care not for the theatrical propaganda that comes with politics.  It is after all propaganda and as such diversionary.  The real key is the heart of the “Jedi” and his alignment with either the good “force” or the evil “force”.  All one has to do then is manufacture populist good vs evil definitions.

Or keep approaching critics in the traditional manner, developed in response to Bush?

Levels, it all lies in the levels.

    Go fuck yourself.

Actually no, corporate is going to do that TO YOU and then CHARGE YOU for it.  Today I spent 1.5 hours in Verizon phone tree hell just to determine that they did in fact shut off Ma’s ancient outdated so yesterday old fashioned land line service.  At her age and technological ignorance somebody convinced her she could save money by going to Vonnage so she presented me the opportunity of hooking up six phones to the single Vonnage modem.

“But Ma, it’s NOT a real phone.”

    How can I help?

Be one with the force, know thy enemy, do not give the Dark Side energy.  Knowing thy enemy may require lot’s of thought.

    1) Does it matter?

    2) See one.

    3) He has his hatchet men so he can look good.  Same mindset, so we really haven’t changed.

    4) Probably not.  We all have our styles.  Go over to Orange and see that they pretty much have a go a slandering the Repugs.  We don’t do quite so much here, but it’ll continue.

Random: Gee, isn’t Obama doing a helluva job?

Silly: Realize Obama’s one of them and act accordingly.
