On Monday my PC died.
The motherboard was fried.

Interruptus… I got kicked off the machine again last night. My husband is still tweaking the hardware. Last night he installed a 1.5 TB Barracuda backup drive. To go along with the 10,000 RPM VelociRaptor hard drive. (I like the names!) He added 2 GB of RAM and he is planning to install the new Windows 7 on it too. It is running like a Ferrari now. Really fast and quiet. The box stays cool to the touch. Our PC was like a small radiator it would get so warm.
There’s more software to install and some drives to recover – I lost a lot of my work. But things are almost back to normal now.
I think you’re right about my computer overheating…last night I came home & my apartment temperature was quite comfy…and the computer crashed in about half an hour.
My hard drive might be going, too.
When this thing is working well, it’s a powerhouse. (Well, more than enough for me, anyway.) But it hasn’t been working well for over a year now…some of that, I think, is software glitches, but not all. And…you said about cleaning it, which I tried to do, but it didn’t seem to help (& no, I don’t have a computer vacuum gizmo, but it didn’t seem that dusty inside).
And I am not competent to fix it…or even recognize what’s wrong with it.
Thanks SO MUCH for all your help…I’m glad your husband knows how to fix these things (& can I borrow him? Please? Promise to give him back w/his virtue intact!)
