Urgent Message for America from Woody Guthrie

(noon. – promoted by ek hornbeck)

America has been stolen from us by our own filthy rich.  My grasp of the dismal science of economics is simple and unsophisticated but I’ve spent far too much time among thieves not to know theft when I see it.  In what is by far the biggest robbery in history, the ‘haves and have mores’ have taken not only all that we have, but all that we’ll ever have.  They have stolen the very future from our children and grandchildren.  If we continue to take it lying down, we deserve what we get.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way in America.

Bruce Springsteen – This Land is Your Land

“When the American people, facing a foreclosure crisis and struggling economy, turned to this administration for help, the answer was no,” Clinton said in a statement. “Now, the administration is turning to the American people for help, to rescue the credit markets and take on hundreds of billions in debt and financial obligations as a consequence of that same foreclosure crisis. The truth is, Main Street came to Washington and got little. Now Washington is coming to Main Street and asking for a lot.”

Tough Talk From Clinton On Bailout

Thank you for the quote Hillary.  It’s a good one…but what I want to know is when will the political establishment, and especially the Democrats, finally ‘get it’ and stop supporting this madness and get serious about drastic reform – not just of the economy but the entire government as well?  When are we going to finally end the corruption?  When are we going to finally act to ensure the rule of law?  When is any one of our leaders going to stand up and take bold action in the interests of the American people?

A good place to start it seems to me is by making sure that the American people are the ones who get bailed out here – not the idiot asshole gazillionaires at the top who caused the problem to begin with in their greed-besotted zeal to rip the rest of us off.

Now they want US to bail THEM out.  That is just one more royal screwing on top of the mighty mountain of royal screwings we have taken as a people.

ENOUGH!

ENOUGH!

Let us do what is prudent and wise, but let’s ensure that the American people are the one’s who get bailed out here – not the greedy bandits responsible for the crisis.  They should be brought to justice just like the bandits in the White House.

It is time to take our country back.  It is time for a return to sanity.

It is time to return America to the American people.

Thank you Woody Guthrie.

George Carlin was right. Doesn’t it?

  1. They should be brought to justice just like the bandits in the White House.

Thanks OPOL for everything you’ve been doing.

  2. …the blogger’s yell to the world seems dead fuckin’ on.  And you do it better than almost anyone.

As process, it seems like the final, finishing touch of the looting…on the other hand, we grew up with an America which looted the world, with every advantage of that, whatever our beliefs, and if we’re the final victims…goddess knows we’ve earned it.

for these fraudsters and their enablers is insufficient.  Prosecution needs to be written in to any bailout bill.  And these derivatives must be made illegal in that very same bill.  No deal otherwise.

Did it become so clear to them that McCain is going to lose in November that they decided to finally just up and loot every last cent they possibly could, while at the same time creating and leaving an unfixable mess for Obama to try unsuccessfully to deal with for four years while they continually repeat as loudly as they can that “see – a democratic administration is presiding over the destruction of America” and pitch themselves as the saviors to a terrified populace again for 2012?

  3. …if we all stopped writing about things where our grasp is “simple and unsophisticated”.

You know theft when you see it, OPOL?  Tell me, then: what have the owners and operators of the various firms being bailed out received?  Shareholders in Bear, Fannie, Freddie, etc. have been wiped out.  Even the preferred shareholders in the GSEs are getting nearly nothing, and that stock was sold with a government guarantee.  I don’t know how to make this plainer: in these bailouts, the people getting bailed out are getting nothing.  The people getting something are their creditors.

There are lots and lots of legitimate complaints about the proposed bailouts and those that have already taken place.  Ill-informed complaints, particularly from someone held in high esteem like you, make the problem worse, because neither the problems nor the required remedies are correctly identified.  These are not simple and unsophisticated problems, and there are no simple or unsophisticated solutions to them.  None.

you always seem to see into my soul & say what i’m feeling.

Woody Guthrie (& Pete Seegar) have long been heroes to me.

Seems to me YOU have your finger on the pulse of America in the same way they did. You write truth in a way that speaks to people.

Interestingly (to me) I find the fourth verse of “This Land” has again been forgotten. It’s the verse that has always spoken loudest to me:

Was a high wall there that tried to stop me

A sign was painted said: Private Property,

But on the back side it didn’t say nothing —

That Side Was Made For You And Me

and a little footnote from “This Land” for you:

“This song is Copyrighted in U.S., under Seal of Copyright # 154085, for a period of 28 years, and anybody caught singin it without our permission, will be mighty good friends of ourn, cause we don’t give a dern. Publish it. Write it. Sing it. Swing to it. Yodel it. We wrote it, that’s all we wanted to do.”

    Love you OPOL

    ♥~

  4. This land was your land.

Two or three verses about banksters.

  5. …thanks OPOL.

  6. is a oxymoron. A social science which takes people out of the equation or relegates them to units of labor or some such bs and then figures out how to make like a bandit with the collective money. Don’t let them snow you OPAL we can all see that no matter how complicated this scam was it was or should be considered a Ponzi scheme for making money not real money just the money that is skimmed from the real world.

They make it from betting on our misery. They buy short to encourage failure and sell ????? who cares how complicated they got what matters is they just kept crooking until the pyramid fell. Strang the logic that says we can’t let these Robbers fail because the terrorist are going to kill your families. Extortion all around.

  7. each and every comment, but I have scanned down through them all.

Hopefully, and thankfully, we are INDIVIDUALS here!

OPOL’s individuality is expressed in his ability to “get to your heart — the soul of you!”  That to me, is a unique ability.

On the other hand, you have a different individual in someone, such as Jay, who is more of a pragmatist is his thinking, and wants the particulars of the views presented.

Personally, I don’t have a problem with either or, as I think each view and all views present their own form of validity!

So, hugs to OPOL and hugs to Jay Elias!  It is by these very means that we are able to debate and, hopefully, arrive at some level of understanding — all of which are essential, IMHO!  I don’t think that just ONE VIEW helps us to arrive at a level of understanding, but the views of many, in order to sort it out and arrive at an understanding which is sensible to ourselves!

    One cavil from this curmudgeon:

It wasn’t supposed to be this way in America.

It’s always been this way in America.

    Ask the old Wobblies.

    Ask the mine workers.

    Ask the Native Americans.

Ask the black man and woman.

    Ask the Mexican field laborer.

Ask the Chinese immigrant sweatshop worker.

Ask the poor and the uneducated.

Ask those killed in America’s imperial “adventures”.

    etc. etc.

I know you didn’t mean to slight any of these. I know you speak, too, for these folks, past, present and future. I just wanted to make the point clearer.
