Troops Against the War: One Sentence Tells The Story

Unlike, say, the network television news programs, the print media still makes sporadic bids at covering the Iraq war. (All praise be unto the McClatchy chain, of course).

Last week the Christian Science Monitor carried an interesting piece by Sam Dagher, about a married couple who works as interpreters for the US occupation. They are, unsurprisingly, desperate to get out of the country and into the US. The two, whom Darger calls Chris and Sarah, have completed their paperwork, which requires, inter alia, a written recommendation from a US general (!), but nothing much seems to be happening.

The money quote comes near the end of the article:

Both describe the frequent arguments they have with US soldiers stationed in Iraq who do not believe they are fighting for a worthy cause and speak disparagingly of Bush.

There’s the story for you, folks. One more bit of evidence that the troops too have turned against Bush’s sucking chest wound of a war.

Many thanks for the tip to Tom Barton, the indefatigable compiler/editor of the (almost) daily email digest G.I. Special, widely read in the Armed Forces. Check it out here.

what we progressives think and say trickles into the public consciousness.

  1. There are fewer and fewer diaries about the war on all the blogs and this follows the MSM reduction in stories about Iraq.

This confirms to me the influence of the MSM on the alleged “liberal” bloggers who really follow the mainstream.

That is why you have a very conservative democrat…Barak Obama running.

Americans are followers. They only imagine that they are not strict conformists.

    It’s amazing.

Liberals are promoting a right wing pro war (afghanistan now) , pro captialist, Pro security state candidates who thinks people whose skin happens to be a color other than white need to get their act together. Obama says the U.S has done enough for Iraq…it’s time for them to take responsibility….UNBELIEVABLE….

And many of you people think you are SO CLEVER…your going to get right wing democrats who support Bush’s politics into the White house and slowly things will return to normal.

Things are moving to the right…you aren’t going to change course by voting for a candidate like Obama and other democrats who are being swept to the right by forces that are not understood.

This isn’t about a Party or a candidate….it’s a world wide movement and you have to talk about the issues…not the party or the candidate…

Everything is personality oreinted…or “party” oreinted. Americans want to be “included”…so they identify with a party that doesn’t represent their interests…but “includes” them.

It’s a dumb move to vote for Obama in hopes he will turn anything around…it is  dumb to try to be clever when you are not clever….your going to get yourself in a lot of trouble.

    And you will be dissapointed.

Vote for people who are telling the truth…in that way you make a small contribution toward resistance of the movement to the right.
