Leaving Bushworld……..222 days

Justice Kennedy, today: To hold the political branches have the power to switch the Constitution on or off at will is quite another.

From 2002:

“That’s not the way the world really works anymore,” the Bush aide told the journalist. “We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality – judiciously, as you will – we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors … and you, all of you, will be left to study what we do.”

Todays SCOTUS decision puts a huge crack in the facade of the Republicans manufactured reality. On a very basic level, we have just left the station on the way out of Bushworld. As these petty wannabe tyrants might be coming to realize, reality is not made by fiat. Morality is not subject to legalspeak or legislative parsing. Actions based purely on ideological theory have just as many, if not more, consequences as those based on a realistic assessment of the world. And that the world is as it is, not as you wish it would be. No matter how many John Yoo’s you hire to subvert the law and no matter how many Karl Rove’s you get to spin ‘reality’….you still reap what you sow.

“Because I say so, and I am a Republican,”  or even “Because I say so, and I am President,” doesn’t cut it. As much as you may want to believe God is on your side and that you can do no wrong, there is a whole ‘nother world crouching outside of your bubble, waiting for you to emerge….so it can slap you upside your fool head.

How’s the reality of that Permanent Republican Majority working out for you now, you arrogant little bastids???

In Bushworld, 9/11 changed everything. It confirmed for them their paranoiac world view. That America has a Manifest Destiny to rule the world, to spread Christianity and there version of “freedom” and “democracy.” And that whatever they did….kill, torture, spy, commit treason….was all in service of this destiny….. Was in the service of their god….somehow. Apparently, since everything Bush has touched has turned to shit….god (whoever she may be) disagrees.

George Bush and friends literally tried to force their reality on the world, a reality built on hate, fear, greed and smug sanctimony, spread at gunpoint. America has rejected George Bush’s Reality….

From Think Progress: Bush, Cheney, and Rice sink to lowest ratings ever.

  – President Bush’s latest ratings are 24 percent positive and fully 75 percent negative. Previously, his worst numbers were 26 percent positive and 72 percent negative in April of this year. His ratings are substantially worse than those of any president, except for Jimmy Carter (22%-77% in July 1980), since Harris first started measuring them in 1963.

   – Vice President Cheney’s ratings are even worse, 18 percent positive and 74 percent negative, compared to his previous low of 21 percent positive, 74 percent negative last July.

   – Secretary of State Rice’s ratings are much better than those of the President and Vice President, but also have fallen to their lowest point ever, 39 percent positive and 54 percent negative, compared to 42 percent positive and 51 percent negative last October.

Today the SCOTUS rejected it too.

If we can keep a rein on his Reign of Terror for 222 more days….keep him from completing his ‘mission’ by preventing him from attacking Iran….there might actually be enough of the world left to build on. To build a new consensual reality, for the greater good of all concerned. Based on cooperation and respect, not domination and fear.

What a concept. What a different, expansive, inclusive, reality, compared to the tiny little reality of Bushworld…may it Rest In Pieces.

  2. … should have been a 9-0 ruling. Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, and Alito are no friends of our Constitution.

The purpose it supposedly served for these criminals is now null and void.

Roberts, Alito, Scalia and Thomas should be very ashamed of themselves today.  Yeah, I know.  They Are NOT.

  3. President Bush, in his European farewell tour, is voicing regret for making statements about his foreign policy that he believes were misinterpreted.

Bush was asked to name the positive and negative aspects about his eight years as president in an interview on French television Thursday.

“Well, you know, I think that people will say he’s a decisive person who took action when necessary to protect his country and to address the problems of the world,” he said. “Bad points are probably sometimes my rhetoric was a little – was misunderstood. I mean, I can remember saying, you know, ‘Dead or alive,’ which sent – it sent signals that could be easily misinterpreted.”

  4. Bush will remain in office and so will Cheney.

The insanely wealthy will become a different species. Nothing about them will resemble the rest of humanity. Their genes will be engineered in their children, they will live to 100, they will be cosmetically and pharmaceutically enhanced, the rest of us will be serfs and fodder for resource wars among corporate states and alliances.

Children in rural America are going hungry with bellies swollen from lack of protein, because their parents can’t afford to drive to the grocery store 30 miles away. I got this in a mailing from a mission in Alabama I’ve supported for years.

Like the Bible says, I wonder myself: “Why do the wicked prosper?”
