morning-in-america: meet shit storm

Just had to react to this.

Another book. Another inside look at the Bush administration. Another portrait of the organized crime ring running the White House and the country. This time the story, What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception, appears to have been written by former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan.

I use the word appears in attributing authorship to McClellan because, in fact, McClellan may have been hijacked. By aliens. The left. Or, even worse, the fucking facts may have contaminated his version of the truth.

From George W. Bush via current White House Press Secretary Dana Perino…

“He [Bush] is puzzled, and he doesn’t recognize this as the Scott McClellan that he hired and confided in and worked with for so many years.”

Ari Fleischer, Bush’s press secretary before McClellan, is also confounded and suspicious

“That’s one of the reasons this book comes as such a shock,” Fleischer said. “It comes from the last person that anyone would have thought would have said these things or written these things. . . . All you can do is scratch your head when you see how far he’s turned.”

And Karl Rove. Karl. Rove. You have to love his take on this…

“This doesn’t sound like Scott. Sounds like somebody else. Sounds like a left wing blogger. . . but this doesn’t sound like Scott.”

What is troubling are these quotes…

Dan Bartlett, Former White House counselor, said it was “misguided for him [McClellan] to make these kind of broad accusations and draw these big conclusions about the president.” Because, it seems, this puts our author in danger of “dancing on his political grave.” So says Trent Duffy, a McClellan WH deputy. “Here’s a man who owes his whole career to George W. Bush, and here he’s stabbing him in the back and no one knows why,” said Duffy.

So maybe you’re like me… stuttering, spitting, and screaming as old wounds feel brand-spanking-new. But let’s get a few things straight.

First, Mr. Duffy. McClellan doesn’t owe George Bush one. fucking. thing. McClellan is accountable to the facts, the American people, and his country.

Second, it is kinda funny to have BushCo try to do to Scott McClellan what they did to John Kerry, John McCain, and Max Cleland. Kinda like the inverted or reverse or inside out universe. Like how Healthy Forests means cut down all the trees and Clean Skies means deregulate any and all processes and industries that send crap into our atmosphere. Like how mushroom cloud really meant the haze after eating a couple. Ha! And No Child Left Behind is code for destroying public education; supporting our troops translates to hiring mercenaries at $650 to $1000 per day.

Like how the facts are lies and how lies have ascended to truth. Like how right-to-life means the one percenters right to the lush life.

Who owns this story? Who will prevail in the this narrative? Cause these venal creatures are inventing a new level of lying. As, in front of our very eyes, they are attempting to steal Scott McClelland’s identity and accuse him of being someone else.

Yeah. So how do we counter the politicians running our country? I’m pretty sure Americans have gotten the story. They just don’t know what to do about it. Or with the facts. How do we lay out a strategy to regain control of our government? not to mention our lives and our freedom…

that’s a 30. back to packing.

but what the fucking fuck

Did anyone catch this goober saying, defensively and breathlessly, right at the end of the interview (and, of course, not being challenged on it) that he was sure that Bush did not “intentionally spin” info in the run-up to the war!  I’m sorry, but exactly what is “propaganda” again???

    The Thrill Is Gone

  1. Maybe it was written by Fred Willard?  After I heard the title of the book I remembered this scene from A Mighty Wind.  Yep – must have been him.

  2. Cause these venal creatures are inventing a new level of lying. As, in front of our very eyes, they are attempting to steal Scott McClelland’s identity and accuse him of being someone else.

    Fucking Fuckers!!!

On a lighter note – In case I don’t get another chance to say it…

Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan says George W. Bush’s political guru Karl Rove arranged a private meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby in 2005 when the two men were under mounting suspicion for leaking the identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame Wilson.

Calling the scene “one moment during the leak episode that I am reluctant to discuss,” McClellan writes in his new memoir that “in 2005, during a time when attention was focusing on Rove and Libby, [the meeting] sticks vividly in my mind. …

“Following [a meeting in Chief of Staff Andy Card’s office], Scooter Libby was walking to the entryway as he prepared to depart when Karl turned to get his attention. ‘You have time to visit?’ Karl asked. ‘Yeah,’ replied Libby.”

In the new book, What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and the Culture of Washington Deception, McClellan doesn’t offer substantive evidence that Rove and Libby used the meeting in 2005 to coordinate their cover stories.

“I have no idea what they discussed, but it seemed suspicious for these two, whom I had never noticed spending any one-on-one time together, to go behind closed doors and visit privately,” McClellan writes.

“At least one of them, Rove, it was publicly known at the time, had at best misled me by not sharing relevant information, and credible rumors were spreading that the other, Libby, had done at least as much,” McClellan said. “I don’t know what they discussed, but what would any knowledgeable person reasonably and logically conclude was the topic?”

More of McClellan’s role at The Public Record…

  5. …the Bushies is “truth.”  And they don’t recognize it when it’s written.  And the time for it is not appropriate.  And it sounds left-wing to them.

  6. I like this essay.

Maybe, the Repugs should have a contest amongst themselves to find out who the REAL Scott McClellan is!!!!!

So, this is it for you for a little while?

I know you must be very excited — kinda’ like in a dream state, maybe!

I wish you a safe and good trip and will look forward to seeing you here again soon!  Bon Voyage!

  7. Though I’ve been very critical of McClellan and unsympathetic to his attempts to excuse his complicity with repeating bush lies, his possible revelations under oath could be instrumental in any attempts to prosecute Rove, Libby and Cheney.

“…McClellan has revealed in his upcoming book that:  Karl  Rove, Scooter Libby, and Vice President Cheney lied about their role in revealing the identity of Valerie Plame Wilson – actions easily amounting to obstruction of Justice….”

Judiciary Committee member, Rep Wexler adds:

“…Scott McClellan must be called to testify under oath before the House Judiciary Committee to tell Congress and the American people everything he knows about this massive effort by the White House to deceive this nation into war…”

It seems that the republicans are quite aware of the damage McClellan’s testimony could do, and they’re slipping into “Retaliation Mode”:  Via this diary Americablog reports “Former Prostitute says:  ‘I knew Scott better than any WH correspondent or Washington Reporter'”.

Though I’ve been very critical of McClellan’s long delay in exposing the WH lies-I’m beginning to wonder if the delay was in part because he knew what he’d be exposing himself to by coming forward.  Joe and Valerie Wilson, and whistleblower, Jessalyn Radack  certainly know how the administration treats those who “cross” them.

  8. just my style. My observation is that it isn’t just turning into a shit storm for the Bushies but Scotty seems to have spayed it all over the ‘fourth estate’ who our now telling us that it’s our fault, it was the intelligence and appearing generally like the toadies they have been. Seem to be clueless about what a journalist’s job is, and their culpability in legitamizing this regime and making ‘the left’ a dirty word.

The whole house of cards is collapsing. My wish is that the whole lot of them, enablers included, will face disgrace. My husband said as Dan Bartlet spewed nonsense “This guy should be behind bars”. Hope that the people who believe what comes out of the TV is somehow the truth, are watching, perhaps they will turn on the messengers who sold them this pack of lies.

On a personal note, Bon Voyage. I knew you were going but now that it is actually time I am wondering if you will still post and write at Docudharma? I’m torn between my happiness at your new life and my love of your writing and voice. Do come back, it is after all a world wide net. I was just getting up the courage to do Writing in the Raw. I find you to be inspirational both artistically and intellectually, please don’t stay away too long. We will all miss you.

  9. That seems to be McClellan’s argument. Bush/Cheney wanted to bring democracy to the Middle East by force. I still don’t buy the explanation.

From my perspective: Bush/Cheney invaded for Iraq’s oil.

McClellan’s book is just so much more lies and spin upon spin.
