Between Two Worlds

I am an optimist, but by no means a blind optimist. There are very bad people doing very bad things in this world…one could even use the word evil, depending on how one defines evil, one could possibly even say there are evil people in this world.

(e·vil    Pronunciation[ee-vuhl)

-adjective

1. morally wrong or bad; immoral; wicked: evil deeds; an evil life.

2. harmful; injurious: evil laws.

3. characterized or accompanied by misfortune or suffering; unfortunate; disastrous: to be fallen on evil days.

4. due to actual or imputed bad conduct or character: an evil reputation.

5. marked by anger, irritability, irascibility, etc.: He is known for his evil disposition.

Ok………………..there are evil people in this world!

Ok, not only are their evil people….

But for a while there, the whole nation and many others fell under their evil glamour. A descent into evil was embraced and even celebrated. But now, brothers and sisters, we are beginning the slow crawl back up the slippery slope. The face that evil has hid behind, The Republican party, and their candidates are being crushed and repudiated ….with more humiliations galore to come!

You bet your wide bloggers ass we do!

The tide is turning, it VERY much looks like we have beat back the worst they have to offer and that people are coming to their senses a bit…at long last. No one knows what new world will be created from the ashes of the old (whatever it is, WE won’t be fully satisfied with it anyway, lol! That is not in our nature, Keep Yelling!) but a new world is coming. Let’s do what we can to help shape it!

  2. for that Mississippi special election.  Sure would be too bad if Tom Cole lost his job over it — he’s been great for Democrats so far.

Another shame — that race might seal the deal for not having Bush and/or Cheney campaigning with Republicans in the fall.  If Cheney couldn’t help in MS-01, where could he help?  And I was looking forward to more pictures of Bush and Gramps hugging.

  3. Punishment Of GOP By Crushing (just kiddin’), I think this actually goes deeper than just the partisan politics involved.

There is a small, vocal cadre that decided to take over one of two poltical parties and use it to try to remake this country from a democratic state with respect for human rights and an ailing, but still existant, social net…

…and turn it into a radical bastion of Rand-style objectivism, where John Gault reigns supreme and honest compassion is considered a sign of “weakness”.

They got real close to succeeding. In fact, they’re still not out for the count.

But something happened: Katrina. It woke folks up to what this place would be like under these radical, extreme theories. And they didn’t like what they saw.

The slow, steady climb out of the darkenss started at that moment, and has been building ever since. If folks think it’s about Dem vs GOPers, they’re sadly mistaken.

It’s about Americans wanting to be the good guys again. Standing up for what is right, and showing true compassion – the kind backed up by action and not cynical campaign rhetoric.

Whichever party gets that one in the fall will win in a landslide. Whichever administration governs with this mindset will have record-breaking favorability numbers.

Bill Mollison’s definition of evil.  Look around.  There is still a heap of it.  Mostly I see us “painting the roses red”.

  4. Edger posted this song in davidseth’s essay. Its now become my favorite “anthem.”

Ring the bell that still can ring

    Forget your perfect offerings

There is a crack in everything

That’s how the light gets in.

Why do you say the tide is turning? In light of all that has happened in the last 8 years and before?….there are ebbs and flows….but there is a WORLDWIDE movement toward centralized power, fundamentalism, and general expolitation that has been going on for quite some time and it’s a wave of such force that nothing in the near future will stop it short of world wide natural or economic disaster….

One of the reasons it will bet worse is because people are so naive and dumb in America….the nation that is unnecessarily leading the charge for a kind of world wide exploitation of any living that can be expolited.

In order to have an impact….that’s all you can hope for…not turning the tide….you have to understand how indifferent reality is to “hope”….

Understanding is more important than hope….

And there isn’t much of it.

That’s why we have these bland candidates who are all running on SECURITY (MEANING MORE WAR)…and who only offer peace through military action rather than using simple commonsense.

The reason we have these Pro War candidates…..and don’t tell me they are not prowar….they are offering only to bring the troops home when Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Somalia etc. are “secure”…(.that will never happen as long as troops are present and will not happen if troops are removed)

    Get tough…get smart….get real….forget about optimism….

Optimism has no power….and activism without understanding is useless…

That’s why Move On, Air America are not for the immediate withdrawal of troops…and there are NO Marches on a regular basis that build…. and so many liberal blogs (doesn’t include this one it seems) are really for the continued presence of American troops in “terrorist” states.
