Are Iowans Always Polite? Not When McCain Comes to Town

(10 am – promoted by ek hornbeck)

John McCain made a campaign stop in Iowa today and held a town-hall meeting at the Polk County Convention Center in Des Moines.  It was attended by lots of typical up-tight Iowa Republicans, who clap politely when McCain talks about wars in Iraq and Iran, tax cuts for the rich, wacky economic ideas like the gas-tax holiday, etc.

Unfortunately for McCain, the town-hall was also attended by a Baptist minister named Marty Parrish.

Parrish stepped up to the microphone and politely asked McCain:

This question goes to mental health and mental health care. Previously, I’ve been married to a woman that was verbally abusive to me. Is it true that you called your wife a cunt?

The question referred to an incident described by Cliff Schecter in his book “The Real McCain,”  where McCain’s temper allegedly got the better of him when addressing his lovely Stepford wife, Cindy.  McCain did answer Parrish, but did not “answer” the question:

Now, now. You don’t want to … Um, you know that’s the great thing about town hall meetings, sir, but we really don’t, there’s people here who don’t respect that kind of language. So I’ll move on to the next questioner in the back.

The Secret Service then escorted Mr. Parrish outside.  He was not charged with anything.  And the audience politely clapped when McCain gave his answer.

  1. that the reason McCain was holding the event was to explain why we can’t have universal health care.

  2. will never dispel a difficult situation with an honest and truthful answer.  He will get out of it by using the “norms” of society, as currently programmed of course.

  3. that he, himself, is purported to have called his very own wife….wow…

that’s a level-of-hypocrisy of about 4.7….and it appears he stuck the landing.  the judges are going to love it 😉

  4. Polite clapping covers a multitude of opinions….

To the McCainobots, raising the question was inappropriate.  That McCain would be such a foul-mouthed, twisted, mysogenistic, bullying asshole is of no consequence to them.

    Interesting, that.

  5. that this is a man who, in the midst of a crashing economy…the single most important issue in the upcoming election, admits that economics is not his strong point.

I don’t see how either Obama or Clinton could lose to this joner but anything’s possible.

  6. This made my day. It puts the media to shame for once again trying to dress this naked idiot in the emperors clothes. he’s a nasty mean spirited damaged man, not a hero. If the Democratic party can’t beat this sorry excuse for a candidate they are gone forever. What are HRC and Bubba thinking calling this creep somebody who is fit for office and offering to run a civilized campaign with another sadistic psycho, who’s abusive to women to boot.
