Pony Party, Game On!!

Cue the band…..”It’s the most wonderful time of the year….”

New Jersey (4) NY Rangers (5)
Western Conference
Detroit (1) Nashville (8)
San Jose (2) Calgary (7)
Minnesota (3) Colorado (6)
Anaheim (4) Dallas (5)
Home Team (seed) Visiting Team (seed)

or, if you’d like extensive coverage

Since the first 4 NHL playoff games will be played tomorrow night, I’m making my public picks (and i promise NOT to edit the essay later), and invite others to do so.  The dharminions who participated in a March Madness pick’em tourney at Yahoo.com had great fun.  Sadly, there isn’t a like online pick’em for the NHL playoffs, so we’re doing it here.  And i proved my complete lack of skill at picking winners in the March Madness tournament, so take these with a grain of something (salt isnt good for the ice surface…use sparingly)

Eastern Conference:

Montreal over Boston in 5 (probably 4…but who calls a sweep??)

Pittsburgh over Ottawa in 6 or 7 (my gut wants to pick ottawa here…)

Philly over Washington in 6 (sue me…i cant pick against my boys….just cant)

Rangers over NJ in 7  (wishful thinking?)

Western Conference:  (i admit, they play pretty late for me most nights, and i dont see nearly as much of them)

Detroit over Nashville in 4 (apparently I call a sweep;)

San Jose over Calgary in 5

Minnesota over Colorado in 6 or 7 (fingers crossed)

Anaheim over Dallas in 6 (good riddance 😉

That would give us a 2nd round of

Montreal vs. Philly

Pittsburgh vs. Rangers

Detroit vs. Anaheim

San Jose vs. Minnesota

………but we’ll cross that bridge when we find out just how wrong i was about it 😉

Night Owl made picks in yesterday’s pony….linky

So, let’s see yours….

Also, I’ve mentioned elsewhere having a ‘playoff discussion’ essay which we hotlist or bookmark, so’s not to crowd too too much sports content onto the recent list…we can use this one…or i can put one up tomorrow night…or someone else can (please ;)…but i thought we’d start with one and then see if we’d need additional ones (based on comment numbers, etc) every few days, or weekly, or whatever…any feedback on that strategy would be lovely…

(i never want to feel like i’m ‘taking over’ such things…but then feel like if i dont initiate something it might not get done….so if im too pushy or conversely not doing enough..please feel free to say so.)

Lastly, if you’ve got pics of your playoff beard, lets see ’em!!

Good Luck and Good Health to all the players…especially our favorites ;)…and here’s to the greatest ‘second season’ in sports!!!!!!!!

  1. Montreal over Boston in six ( not a series I actually care about )

Pittsburgh over Ottawa in six ( I know I am supposed to go for a Canadian team but Ottawa despite obvious talent has never inspired me )

Washington over Philly in seven ( Pittsburg is a bit over confident and Philly can be tough one series and then fold the next one )

Rangers over Devils in six ( Be nice to see the Rangers do something in the postseason and the Devils bore me )

Detroit over Nashville in 5 ( actually if a miracle from the hockey Gods arose and Detroit some how lost I would be very pleased )

Calgary over San Jose in in six ( I don’t really believe it will happen but I need to be enthusiastic about a Canadian team )

Minnesota over Colorado  in 5 ( I just like the way they play)

Anaheim over Dallas in 6 ( Dallas has crumpled in the playoffs for several years )

Winning the basketball pool was a fluke I don’t expect any hockey triumph.

  2. Montreal over Boston in 4

    Pittsburgh over Ottawa in 5

    Washington over Philadelphia in 7

New Jersey over New York in 6

    Detroit over Nashville in 4

San Jose over Calgary in 6

    Minnesota over Colorado in 5

    Dallas over Anaheim in 7

I don’t watch a whole lot of hockey and probably don’t know what I’m talking about.  To prove it, I may pick the Sharks to win the Stanley Cup, and keep the streak going of cities without snow winning the Cup.  Sacrilege.
