Muse in the Morning

The muses are ancient.  The inspirations for our stories were said to be born from them.  Muses of song and dance, or poetry and prose, of comedy and tragedy, of the inward and the outward.  In one version they are Calliope, Euterpe and Terpsichore, Erato and Clio, Thalia and Melpomene, Polyhymnia and Urania.

It has also been traditional to name a tenth muse.  Plato declared Sappho to be the tenth muse, the muse of women poets.  Others have been suggested throughout the centuries.  I don’t have a name for one, but I do think there should be a muse for the graphical arts.  And maybe there should be many more.

Please join us inside to celebrate our various muses…

Stray poem w/pootie…also originally a stray.

A Pink-footed Tribble

Soporism

Sleep almost always begins

with the deep steady rumble

of my cat’s purr

and all too often ends

with a head butt to the chin

or right between the eyes

or the gentle batting

of an eyelash

by that self-same cat

I know you have talent.  What sometimes is forgotten is that being practical is a talent.  I have a paucity for that sort of talent in many situations, though it turns out that I’m a pretty darn good cook.  ðŸ™‚

Let your talent bloom.  You can share it here.  Encourage others to let it bloom inside them as well.

Won’t you share your words or art, your sounds or visions, your thoughts scientific or philosophic, the comedy or tragedy of your days, the stories of doing and making?  And be excellent to one another!

    ….master of all he surveys:

Thirteen hours from now, my Spring Break begins.  I can’t wait. 🙂

  1. Today the car needs to get serviced next week I do: pap smear and mammogram. Woo Hoo. And my hip bursitis is flaring up again. Again gracefully is time consuming stuff. So I guess I am not!

…the whole campus was enshrouded in smoke.  I could smell burning rubber from inside my car.  I’m extremely sensitive to the odors of burning rubber or hot tar, perhaps because they make me ill in seconds flat, so I headed indoors as fast as I could, but it seems there was a fire at or near the old folks home next door to campus.  I doubt I’ll hear much about what happened, but the fire is out now, apparently.  At least the smoke is gone.

My guess:  either a car fire in front of Park Manor or an appliance (electrical) fire inside.  I hope it wasn’t someone who decided to use an oven as a heater.  It’s cold here today.

  2. Robyn, you are the only other person I know that calls catz Tribbles. I reserve it for my two long haired boys… the Marmalades (4 of them) are the Golden Horde, the Vans and Calicos are furballs.

Alas, the Queen of the house passed away on 2/3/08 due to old age. She was an ex-Siamese breeder that spent 11 years with us, passing gracefully at home at the age of 21. (must pick her ashes up tomorrow.)
