Nothing stays the same

I remember years ago hearing a quote that really struck a chord with me:

If you want things to stay the same, you’re going to have to be ready to change.

I don’t remember where the quote came from or who said it, but I think there’s alot of truth to it – especially in this fast-paced world.

As all our presidential candidates are vying for who can more effectively promise change, I am thinking today about it’s inevitability.

It seems to me that the movement of the universe is in a spiral direction. And that’s likely the path that change most often takes. So today, I find great comfort in the words of the song by Carly Simon:

I know nothing stays the same,

but if you’re willing to play the game,

it will be coming around again.

So don’t mind if I fall apart

there’s more room in a broken heart.

And to keep us all from getting too complacent, she throws in that part about the relentless spider who just won’t give up on climbing up the spout!!

I think it might be the longest thought there is, NL. No? 🙂

  2. a heart must be broken wide open to truly work properly……

it is one of the mysteries of life…..

I know that my heart is broken wide and I feel life too much some times….

yet I will be no other way…..

I have tried most of the other ways and found them to be ways of death not ways of life….

so I am a broken heart open and feeling in this terrible amazing world….

the secret is love can actually get into such a heart…..

    and joy can flow out…..

and the fullness of life can take such a heart until its breath is caught…….

    frozen….

in the indescribeable light of the dharma……

liberation is not for the unwilling……

    we must bring our hearts…..

    I hear your light……
