A seven point plan

OK, my last diary was pretty much pro-Democratic party.  Just to show that I am a real progressive, here’s another diary.

I had a conversation on the phone with a staffer from the DCCC.  Nice guy, who described his own politics as “red and green” (he did not mean Republican Red).  We talked for about 10 minutes.  I eventually agreed to give a minimal gift – a gift so small it’s almost an insult, like leaving a nickel tip.  But he gave me a phone number to call, to tell them what I think.  He assured me, they are eager to listen.  Maybe he’s just blowing smoke.  But I’m gonna call

202 863 1500

Here’s what I intend to say.  I propose a 7 point plan:

1) Begin impeachment proceedings

2) Repeal the Patriot Stolen Freedom Act

3) Reverse the Bush tax idiocy

4) Eliminate the Department of Homeland Security Privacy Invasion

5) Back an inclusive ENDA

6) Repeal NCLB

and, oh yeah

7) De-fund the War

I’m not calling ’til tomorrow, anything big to add?

  1. you at least got their attention. In this case civility does help. I went off at the DNC on the phone and they got really angry and haven’t called or written since LOL. Maybe the reality of the 11% approval and lack of donations are getting through at least on the grassroots level, the organizing funding level. Let us know what they say, very interesting. If the Democratic leaders actually pushed for any of the the above I would be thrilled.

    Imagine that.

  2. End torture.

    End renditions.

    End black sites.

    End signing statements.

    End non-FISA wiretapping.

End failure to comply with subpoenas.

End assertions of state secrets doctrine.

    End assertions of executive privilege.

    End Guantanamo.

End calling detainees “enemy combatants” and call them “prisoners of war”

    End the Military Commissions Act

    End war funding.

End designation of Iranian Guards as terrorist group.

  3. Repeal Sarbanes-Oxley

    Anti-trust media industry

    Anti-trust Microshaft

    Prosecute SPPNA promoters

    Constitutional convention

    Disband Blackwater

    Regulate financial industry

    Regulate medical insurance industry

    End NAFTA

Require executive staff of any company selling goods in the US to live in the predominant country of production 300 days in any calendar year!

  4. I wouldn’t give the DCCC a nickel right now.

If you’re going to support Dems — and I still do — give it to individual candidates who do the right thing.

The DCCC is going to spend its money on marginal seats with conservative Dems running.

As much as I like to have a Dem majority, I’m less sure every day that it matters.

And I don’t want my money going to some middle of the roader who’s going to sell out every time a tough vote comes along.

Harsh?  Maybe, but I’ve had it.
