It’s fading like shadows into the night. It’s fading by the hour and institutionalized madness is taking its place. Republicans are no longer the only ones peddling memorized lies for political advantage. They are no longer the only ones actively subverting the Constitution for the sake of power. They are no longer the only ones complicit in war crimes. They are no longer the only ones who’ve gone off-the-charts bat shit insane and are damn proud of it.
In that psych ward of barking lunatics that used to be our government, Democrats and Republicans alike are portraying lethal irresponsibility as responsibility. They expect us to believe that funding tens of billions of dollars again and again and again to prolong a pointless, endless occupation is responsible statesmanship. They expect us to believe that legislating immunity for telecom criminals is responsible lawmaking. They expect us to believe lie after lie as our soldiers die and their loved ones cry and NSA hacks spy for the Commander Guy.
Impeachment? They won’t even try. Don’t ask why.

The names of every clusterfuck in Congress who paid for this atrocity of an occupation, the names of every greedy CEO and stockholder who profits from it, the names of every corporate media hack who lied us into it and is lying to keep us there, the names of every feeble-minded wingnut from Idaho to Alabama who savors it and wants an encore in Iran.

First – thank you for this powerful diary. I find myself wildly fluctuating between absolute rage and complete determination to try to keep it in check as we work through this.
Something hit me like a bat to my head earler this week and all of what we have been through since 9/11 started falling into place. I challenged myself on my own theory and on this Sunday morning I am blearry eyed have stayed up until dawn 4 nights in a row pouring over documents and articles – all on the Internet – to see if my theory held up. It did.
I can’t name names – because I don’t know “who” but here is my best guess as to “what” started the spiral down of the once greatest country on earth.
Opportunity/greed triumphed over a sworn oath to uphold our constitution.
In the most simplistic terms – the people at the highest levels of our country chose to look the other way when presented with clear warnings in the lead up to 9/11. At the same moment they started a trail of covering their tracks through conducting a shock and awe campaign against the citizens of our nation intended to keep us from looking to deep. That campaign is called the Iraq war. Over 1 million lives snuffed out – collateral damage. Get over it. Oh we know you can’t and that’s the point. Because we have you where we want you – afraid. And we will keep doing this form of mental abuse to you to keep you from asking too many questions. We’ll raise the bar a little – start another war – keep you side tracked.
What are we doing? Well we made a choice too. We decided that rather than protect this country from all enemies – to leverage our positions instead. Get on top of the gravy train – control where that train is going even though its passengers lobby and spy for other countries, are willing to pay enourmous sums for black market access to nuclear materials, run drug cartels all over the world. You get the point.
Yes its horrible. Horribly true and thanik god those rose colored glasses are falling away fast as that will be our salvation.
“brain washing” to have become so completely acquiescent as they have. Who on earth could have dreamed that they would simply fall in line with Repug thinking? The Democrats have now abandoned their own, long-standing values and what they have always stood for. It seems they have renounced themselves. It’s mind boggling.
The Democrats, wittingly or unwittingly, are helping to map the course set out by this demonic administration for this country — the end of which will be disaster.
As I see it, Impeachment is imperative!

I actually supported Harry Reid for a time. That was based upon my knowledge of him from the internet. One night though I got to see his behavior up close and personal on C-Span. The galactic let down was more apparent even though I can’t even recall the issue at hand. The you are an asshole image, just like the one I have for Pelosi will never be erased from my eternal life.
The Democrats who retained some power during the Republican regime were corrupted by that power – and the benefits that accrued to them under the Republicans. They were corrupted, as Quisling was corrupted during World War II.
Now that the Repugnants are no longer leading (does anyone belive that Bush is leading?) and monopolizing the light, we can see: our own have become corrupted too. They show themselves to be a branch of the Republican tree.
Unless we can cut that tree down near the roots, the Democrat branches will continue to grow, though the main trunk does fail. We will see policies and activities carried out by Democrats after 2009 that do not differ much from what would have been done by the Repugnants.
I am no longer confused by the illogic in Washington, though I am more depressed than ever. Only the existance of a few true patriots gives one much hope. Thank you Russ Feingold; thank you Dennis Kucinich.
