I am thankful….

Each year at Thanksgiving it is a tradition at our house, while the oyster stew is eaten, to tell what you are thankful for this year. We do this instead of saying grace. Usually either I or my husband will start, then whoever wants to goes next, until everyone (& the stew) is done.

It is so easy to get caught up in what is wrong, what you’d like to change. This one day is the perfect time to count your blessings, reflect on what you have, & what you are truly thankful for.

This year, I am thankful that…

Your Thanksgiving dinner and time with your family.

  1. I am thankful that America does not have enough money to be able to stay in Iraq forever.

I have two really super kids.

I have a lot of dogs who all give out lots of love of which I am often the sole recipient.

My daughter and her boyfriend decided on the name Zoey and she is due to be born December 27th.

I have a pretty amazing husband and though we are up to our hoohaw in specific alligators we will make it just fine because of the amazingness.

I am grateful that everyday more and more people are waking up to the fact that we need to act accordingly or we are going to destroy planet’s ability to sustain us.

I am 42 years into this life I was granted and every time I stop for just a moment and make an honest assessment and acknowledgement of my experiences with those around me it blows me away…..life is good and people have their stellar moments where they are so wonderful they are enveloped in an almost blinding light.

  2. that even though I was awoken by a thunderstorm at 3 am, and rain is always a blessing here, that I can now go back to sleep for as long as I want!

Thankful that several recent close calls with health scares for a few family members turned out to be ok.

Thankful for laughter and joy even in what seems to be such a neverending dark time

Thankful for this little community of great people whom it is a joy to get to know and to share what’s in our hearts and heads

Best to you RiaD and all the restaya’s!

  3. for the abundant love in my family,

for the way members of my family have responded to recent health challenges,

for the opportunities I have to make America more just with my work,

for the numerous chances I have had to express myself in writing,

for the way my novel (my second) is slowly unwinding and progressing,

    for my families’ financial abundance,

for the miraculous ways the numerous dietary supplements I take each morning have enhanced my life,

for the beauty and comfort of where my family and I live,

for my extended family’s coming today to feast on turkey,

for the many wonderful latin american novels I have read in the past year,

for my local community and its strong support for local agriculture, the new food coop, ecology, and the preservation of open space,

for lawyers who zealously represent people condemned to death despite the odds that their clients will be killed,

for the way our friend in the hospital for the past 3 months has progressed toward health,

for the continuous inspiration of my heroes,

for the joy of all kinds of latin american music, salsa, reggaeton, cumbia, sinaloense, etc.,

for our home in mexico and for obdulio y flor y los ninos,

for the health and happiness of our pets and Cornelius the Cats recovery from having seizures,

and for the million other things for which I have gratitude that will immediately come to mind as soon as this comment is posted.

I made it to 55 without any serious illnesses and I’m in pretty good health.

The world gets more interesting every year.

There are way more smart people than dumb people.

There are way more caring people than uncaring people.

There are way more curious people than incurious people.

There are way more honest people than dishonest people.

There are way more liberal people than not liberal people.

There is way more good people than not evil people.

There are way more good things happening in the world than not.

There are way more people noticing these things than not.

And there are some pretty damn good blogs out there. Thanks, buhdy.

There are mountains to climb and rivers to cross and trees to take shade under and….. you can only see the stars in the dark!

And there is always music. And there always will be music.

  4. I am thankful for human warmth…….

    so beautiful….

    arising spontaneously…….

    real because it is….

  5. I’m grateful for…

my mom and dad & my other mom & dad (in-laws)

    my cats

    where I live

my friends on the tubes and in RL

all the opportunities and gifts the universe provides

  6. and there’s still a chance I’ll get it right.

Plus, so many things mentioned in the comments above. And the three dogs, six cats (hey, one’s a loaner), the ig, the amazing people here and the ones around me. And Ria, congratulations on that kiddo — the little guy’s a keeper!!

    Happy Day!

  7. What’s he in the slammer for? (kidding)
I am thankful that my Christmas shopping is done.

  8. I’m thankful for community here and elsewhere

I’m thankful every morning that I’m alive

I’m thankful for the love I give and receive

I’m thankful for the yin and yang

I’m thankful my chidren and their children

I’m thankful for the wonder and mystery

I’m thankful for my art, sometimes

I’m thankful for the fact that all things are possible

I’m thankful for beauty, which is everywhere.

  9. But I realized that I was blind to what is in front of me and all around me:  you!

    Thanks!
