Another “Phony Soldier”

Ricardo Sanchez:

In a sweeping indictment of the four-year effort in Iraq, the former top American commander called the Bush administration’s handling of the war incompetent and warned that the United States was “living a nightmare with no end in sight.” In one of his first major public speeches since leaving the Army in late 2006, retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez blamed the administration for a “catastrophically flawed, unrealistically optimistic war plan” and denounced the current “surge” strategy as a “desperate” move that will not achieve long-term stability.

. . .  “There was been a glaring and unfortunate display of incompetent strategic leadership within our national leaders,” he said, adding later in his remarks that civilian officials have been “derelict in their duties” and guilty of a “lust for power.”

Cue Rush. We got another Jesse Macbeth on our hands.

  1. other people to act as wished call you guilty of a lust for power I’m just not sure what that says about you.

  2. General Sanchez is also a . . .

    Phony Texan.

    Phony Male.

    Phony Christian.

    Phony Hispanic.

    Phony American.

    Phony High School graduate.

And phony Bronze Star medal winner.

The only reason he served 40 years in the Army was to pad his resume so he could run for office someday.

Patreaus got to testify to Congress for two days, Dems should get this guy into a hearing room for 2 days.

  3. that Keith O is going to discuss Sanchez and his statements on his program tonight.

I read the article and was glad to see that they included Sanchez’s involvement with Abu Ghraib. It was the first thing that popped into my mind upon reading this essay.

He has never accepted full responsibility for what happened there, and was never punished beyond being replaced by Gen. Casey. He still denies the veracity of the Taguba report.

I’m glad he is calling out the Bush Admin for their fuckups in Iraq, but the man is still a war criminal in my opinion and should be tried for his role in what happened at that prison.
